In less than a month, US President Joe Biden has highlighted the way in which his broader personal tactics has been applied to US foreign policy in a broader strategic issues, creating problems in European capitals and in the European institutions. More specifically:
- We had the unilateral decision of the US to quickly withdraw its troops from Afghanistan by the end of August and before September 11, 2021, which was set as the deadline for the US presence in Afghanistan, bringing the European Union to a great weakness and “stripping” its non-existent military power.

- Next, followed the sudden creation of the Alliance (AUKUS) between the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Australia while took place the geopolitical upgrading of Australia in the global nuclear power and given first the cancellation of its contract for 12 conventional propulsion submarines with France and the option to acquire nuclear-powered submarines. A potential goal of the new alliance is China’s restriction in the region of Indian- Pacific Ocean.
In both cases Joe Biden moved without informing the European Union while in the second case created a huge problem in France, which had created a special relation defense cooperation with Australia and based on this relationship its strategy in the region of Indian-Pacific Ocean.
In trying to “decipher” the political and particularly how to apply his policies the current US President, we conclude that Joe Biden will do what he wants indifferent for his allies interests and given that he distinguishes first that the interests and the wants of these allies are not identical to the interests and wants of US.
This shows that any conciliation of the European Union with the United States of America can prove even more difficult than the conciliation they had with his predecessor Donald Trump.
On the other hand, the official US foreign policy as expressed and applied by US President Joe Biden is a combination of two foreign policies from two different US Presidents.
This combination includes the basic option for President Obama “Turn to Asia” and the basic election moto of Donald Trump “America First”. Essentially, the foreign policy Joe Biden looks like to be summarized in one sentence “America First, with Turn to Asia”.
The terms of the United States return as said President Joe Biden that “America is back in the International System” appears not to satisfy until now the allies in the European Union. The crisis in the relationship of France and the United States of America are sure to “contaminate ” and the relationships between European Union and the United States of America.

The Methodical and Persistent President
For many, the policy of Joe Biden both in Afghanistan and China may indicate that is a combination of policies of his aforementioned predecessors. In practice, however, this is not the case. It should be noted that Joe Biden:
– In 2009 as a Vice-president told President Obama and the then Council of National Security that it is wrong the US trying to turn Afghanistan into feminist democracy. Due to the many tribes living within the official borders of Afghanistan would be a mistake, he had said the then US Vice-president, US to make a National Army in Afghanistan when these different races, make the total of the population to not understand the concept of nation.
– In addition, the then Vice-president Joe Biden had identified the wrong that United States made to pay two billion US dollars a year to Pakistan to use the airport of Karatsi and road connection with Kantachar. When at the same time the Talimpan they were fed by staff trained in Pakistan in their Islamic schools and the whole network was funded by the Chakani network. Of course, then Joe Biden was not listened to.
– The US policy of withdrawal from Afghanistan was adopted on President Donald Trump.
– The aspirations of then Vice-president Joe Biden were that the withdrawal from Afghanistan and Iraq would allow the US to focus on China.
– In 2008, when the global financial crisis erupted with the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers, the United States called on both the European Union, Japan and China to increase their public spending to avoid a downturn in the global economy. The only ones that responded then were the United Kingdom and China. But the problem with China pointed by then Vice-president Joe Biden when he said that the increase of China’s public spending directed largely to the rapid increase of its military spending unlike what they had agreed between US and China in 2004.

AUKUS: With “love” from Joe Biden
As both EU Commission and the countries of the European Union had been unable to recover from the unilateral decision of Joe Biden for the sudden and immediate withdrawal of US from Afghanistan came the creation of AUKUS alliance.
Its purpose is the drastic restriction of China in the Indo-Pacific region while “dentout” the French strategy in the region of Indian-Pacific Ocean. Given the stressful position of both Germany and France and the European Union as a whole to adopt policies against China.
The cancellation of the agreement between Australia and France for the construction of 12 conventional propulsion submarines is the reason for the crisis in relation between France and the US but also in relations of European Union and the US. In the future will be possible to appear a distance of the European Union by the West with the entering of the European Union in the big Project titled Eurasia and given that any security policy for Europe should be included in part Russia, according to the view of the majority of European officials, although that Russia is an ally of China.
France does not have the capacity to offer geopolitical coverage in Australia as it can the US nuclear protected umprella. But France did not propose to Australia to build nuclear-powered submarines to not mess up the EU-China relations (for higher resolution read the analysis with the title “AUKUS: The right geopolitical choice of Australia “).
The decision of the Australian government to switch from conventional propulsion in nuclear-powered submarines has huge size political significance because it raises the heat with its largest trade partner which is China. Already, China has imposed restrictions on specific products from Australia as for example coal. Because the Chinese market has huge economic importance to the Australian economy there are efforts by the US and the Quad so certain exports of Australian goods to be diverted to the Indian market.
Joe Biden`s political messages through the AUKUS alliance
- The United States’ strategic priority is to “encircle” the “expansionist” China.
- The United States trusts the United Kingdom more than France and the European Union. The British are always more determined to support the US strategy than France and the European Union.
- These initiatives show that Joe Biden completely ignores the role and strategy of France and the European Union in the region of Indian-Pacific Ocean. This indicated that the announcement of AUKUS alliance made 24 hours before the published strategy of EU for the region of Indian- Pacific Ocean. Donald Trump had shown more respect in France and the European Union.
- The initiatives of Joe Biden will be based on “America First” shows that does not take into account the strategic interests of EU and its member-countries.
- NATO will be disbanded (please read the analysis entitled “NATO is disbanded for the sake of AUKUS and the joint EU Armed Forces”). For this reason President of France Emmanuel Macron had characterised NATO “brain dead”. The France humiliated by the cancellation of the contract in Australia and its strategy in the region. France and Germany will hold the European Union in chilly attitude towards the US and eventually participate in Eurasia while creating the conditions for the creation of Joint EU Armed Forces with the purpose of geopolitical strengthening of the European Union.
