At the center of a fierce geopolitical and diplomatic storm has been Russian political thinker Alexander Dugin, who is considered by many to be the ideological mouthpiece of Vladimir Putin’s inner circle. In a highly threatening public post, he targeted Ankara, triggering a storm of angry reactions on social media.
The Russian theorist’s intervention was prompted by a recent, harsh statement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan regarding the war in the Middle East. The Turkish leader had stated characteristically:
“Zionist Israel has killed hundreds of thousands of people. God willing, they will pay the price.”
Quoting these specific words, Alexander Dugin responded with absolute coldness:
“Just words. But be careful, Turkey is next.” With this phrase, Dugin essentially identified himself with the view circulated in Israeli circles, according to which the Turkish state will be the next target after Iran. His position caused a storm on the networks, with users harshly criticizing him, calling him “impudent” and stigmatizing him as the dark “brain of Putin.”
The history of the rupture: “The betrayal of Kemalist Turkey”
This is not the first time that the Russian thinker has opened a front with the neighboring country. Immediately after the fall of the Syrian regime and the rise of Al-Sharaa to power, he had expressed extreme views, stating: “The end of Kemalist Turkey has begun. We will do what we didn’t do, you will regret it, but it will be too late.” Although he deleted the specific post after the uproar it caused at the time, he had time to develop his reasoning.
He argued that Russia had stood by Erdogan both during the high-level bilateral tensions of 2015 and during the coup attempt. In that context, he had concluded that, although Moscow would not directly harm Turkey, it would now be extremely difficult to seek its help after this “betrayal.”
The prediction for the outcome of the war in the Middle East
In parallel with the confrontation over Turkey, Alexander Dugin analyzed the data of the broader conflict between the United States, Iran and Israel.
According to his assessment, the final outcome of the war could become clear in the coming days. He considers Tehran’s resilience to be the most crucial factor. As he emphasized, if Iran manages to maintain its current, suffocating military pressure on its rivals, it has a serious chance of emerging as the big winner in this fierce geopolitical conflict.
