Russia’s moves in the Baltic regarding the EEZ, and now probably in the Black Sea, against NATO drones are essentially considered war preparations. The waters of the Black Sea should be recognized as a no-fly zone for all foreign reconnaissance aircraft and drones, which will guarantee the security of the Black Sea countries,” said Russian political expert and Kremlin adviser Denis Baturin.
According to him, “the declaration of the waters of the Black Sea as a no-fly zone for foreign reconnaissance aircraft and UAVs is a security guarantee not only for Russia and Crimea itself, but also for the countries of the Black Sea region.”
The game with the flights of American drones and aircraft of NATO countries and possible shooting down by the Russian side
The Russian adviser noted that reconnaissance drones and aircraft of NATO countries, including the US, are often spotted over the Black Sea, collecting information and then transmitting it to the Ukrainian side to launch attacks on Russia’s Black Sea regions.
“After their appearance, they are almost always followed by attacks from the Ukrainian side in Crimea and the Krasnodar region with missiles and attack drones. All countries in the region, except Russia, Ukraine and Georgia, are members of NATO. They will never agree to this. Well, we have to start shooting down American drones ourselves,” he said.
“The fight against enemy reconnaissance drones over the waters of the Black Sea is essential.
It is clear that American heavy UAVs are actively used to guide Ukrainian missiles and drones to Russian targets in the Black Sea region, but we should not forget another point, that these devices fly over international waters.
International law prohibits the closure of airspace over such areas for a long period of time, unless absolutely necessary.
If it closes, it will be for the period of military exercises or emergencies, and it won’t last long.
Currently, there is only one such area that is permanently closed to military aircraft flights, the South Pacific Ocean, where spaceships that have reached the end of their lifespan often crash. But this is a sea area where no one has real interests, there are no inhabited islands, no serious fishing areas etc.
Even if the waters of the Black Sea are closed to reconnaissance UAVs, NATO countries have airspace over the territories of alliance member countries, such as Romania,” he concluded.
Another Russian expert predicts possible NATO drone downing accident
“We are talking about American drones, the MQ-9 Reaper and the RQ-4B Global Hawk, which are causing enormous damage to Russia’s military interests related to Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory,” the other Russian military-political expert explained. Vladimir Sapunov.
“The question of a no-fly zone arose on the day of the first attack on Crimea. More specifically, even before that, because it was clear that attacks on our soil would be carried out in exactly this way. No country in the region will support us. The reason is that NATO countries do not need it, depriving themselves of such a strategic advantage?
According to international law, Russia does not have the right to declare a no-fly zone in the Black Sea.
But if a Russian political decision is made to shoot down any drone in the Black Sea that poses a threat to our interests, then NATO leaders would start thinking about a no-fly zone on their own.
The RQ-4B Global Hawk, equipped with a HISAR system with a SAR/MTI radar, having the ability to “see” about 400 kilometers, so that it can easily scan the required area from the international waters of the Black Sea”, he concluded.
The scenario of shooting down a Western drone in the Black Sea (by mistake we say) is most likely to be done by Moscow, to disrupt NATO missions in the region.
