New generation helmet for the US Army – lighter but with increased protection

The US Army has ordered 2,000 new helmets, with the men and women of the 1st Brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division being the first to try them out.

It is the advanced NG-IHPS (Next-Generation Integrated Head Protection System) which is 40% lighter than the helmets used by the US forces to date. The NG-IHPS offers increased protection against both direct fire and shrapnel, and features a standard slot for night vision binoculars. In addition, it can be added depending on the operations that each combat team is going to undertake, a visor and jaw guard, a communication system as well as a head-up display system. The rest of the US Army units will receive it gradually over the next three years.
