400 BGM-109 Tomahawk long-range land attack missiles for Japan at a total cost of $1.7 billion

Japan’s Ministry of Defense announced on January 18 that it signed a $1.7 billion contract to supply 400 BGM-109 Tomahawk missiles. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2025 and be completed in 2027. Of the $1.7 billion cost, $1.13 billion is for the procurement of the missiles ($2.825 million per missile), while the remaining $570 million is for systems and materials, necessary for the integration of the missiles in the ships and their support. The missiles will equip the “Kongo”, “Atago”, “Maya” and ASEV class ships. Of the 400 missiles, 200 will be of the Block.IV version, with a maximum range of 1,600 kilometers, and 200 will be of the Block.V version, with a maximum range of about 1,650-1,700 kilometers.
