A new oil field has been discovered in southwestern Iran, the Tasnim news agency reports. State oil company NIOC announced that Iran’s Oil Minister Javad Ouji will release more details soon.
Meanwhile, following explorations carried out in an offshore “plot” off the country’s southern coast, Iranian experts have estimated that it contains 850 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
For the first time, in fact, Iran has built an aircraft for magnetometry missions, which can detect hydrocarbon deposits at a depth of up to 7 kilometers.
The aircraft will survey about 1/10 of Iran’s territory to collect data, according to an NIOC official.
Iran is the fourth largest oil producer in the world – after Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and Canada – and has reserves of nearly 34 trillion cubic meters of natural gas.
