State-of-the-Αrt Data Collection Systems for the US Army’s New Weapons (NGSW)

Armaments Research Company, Inc. announced that its Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology will be introduced into the US military’s Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program. This will be done in collaboration with SIG Sauer, which has taken over the production of the weapon.

Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology describes physical objects (or groups) that have sensors, processing capability, software and other technologies that enable them to connect and exchange data with other devices and systems, via the Internet or other communication networks.

For the first time in 65 years, this American innovation will replace individual rifles, squad machine guns, fire control systems and ammunition, helping to modernize and better equip tomorrow’s soldiers.

The services of the company

ARC’s technology platform will collect and deliver data to atomic weapons. Knowledge gained will allow units to frequently access weapon health, reduce failure (weapon malfunction) rates, extend weapon longevity and optimize maintenance plans, enhance performance and reduce costs. The data can also improve the unit’s awareness of weapon readiness, which significantly affects a unit’s ability to line up quickly.

The first delivery of NGSW weapons will include the Armaments Research Company (ARC) bullet counting system, as well as the arsenal management system. These systems will collect useful weapon data in the units for years to come.

The NGSW program’s intention to revolutionize the US military’s tactical weapons comes in response to the fact that current weapons systems are threatened with being outmatched in armed conflicts. More than 1,000 soldiers expressed their opinion during the selection and testing of the weapon.

ARC’s weapons intelligence platform works with tactical tools and artificial intelligence to assure mission readiness and improve performance in small units. The platform enables the US military to capture mission-critical data at individual and tactical level weapons, helping military leaders at every level make informed decisions during and after training to improve readiness, performance and operational effectiveness.

The Next Generation Team Weapon (NGSW) Program

The NGSW program is a US military program created in 2017 to replace the M4 rifle and the M249 SAW light machine gun, as well as the M240 machine gun. Another purpose was to develop fire control systems for new small arms.

Seven defense manufacturers competed in the program, with five eventually going on to design and produce weapons. Of these, two attempted to create and supply the US with fire control binoculars.

The US military officially announced the winners in early 2022: SIG Sauer will produce the XM6 rifle and the XM250 automatic rifle, Vortex Optics will produce the XM157 fire control system, and Winchester will produce the special-order 6.8 ammunition cartridges millimeters, designed by SIG Sauer. The program was expected to cost $10 million in the first year of production and $150 million the next.
