Russia modernizes with New Generation Weapons by 80% in its Conventional and Nuclear Weapons

At the Russian Army Exhibition on August 23, 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that “Russia is developing its defense industry and its Armed Forces in accordance with the new technological principles based on Russia’s scientific and technical progress.”

In addition, the Russian president said that the share of modern weapons in strategic nuclear forces exceeds 80%, with the old material having been replaced.

New technology weapons, among others, include:

• The delivery of the advanced RS-28 Sarmat missile in 2022. This intercontinental ballistic missile can carry fifteen guided nuclear warheads against individual targets.

• The Peresvet laser weapon, which is said to have the ability to shoot down both enemy aircraft and incoming missiles.

• Construction of two modern short-range surface ships and four new submarines including two equipped to carry nuclear weapons.
