The growing influence of radical Islam on the African continent, represented by Iran and Turkey, is growing, porting ugly future conflicts on African soil for its geopolitical control. At first glance this conclusion is drawn from the formidable competition between France (EU) and Turkey for both control and influence in North Africa mirrored in Libya’s civil war and in Tunisia.
Tunisia, which considers itself an enemy of France, has developed a huge armament program with a choice of weapons systems from Russia and Turkey. Turkey wants to conclude a defence agreement with Tunisia and establish a military base on that country’s territory.

At the same time, the growing influence of Iran and Turkey in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Libya has caused deep concern in other countries in the region such as Greece (EU), Israel, Egypt, the United Arabic Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia which regard the role and purpose of these two states as highly expansive and very dangerous.

The countries located in both North Africa and East and South East Africa respectively are members of the Arab League. This means that these countries have direct links and access to the existing security framework set up by Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
That is why the United Arabic Emirates has interests in Swaziland, an autonomous region declared independent of Somalia.
Beyond this area there is an area in the Sahara Desert called the Sahel. The Sahel is the ecoclimatic and biogeographic realm of transition in Africa between the Sahara to the north and the Sudanian savanna to the south. This area is affected and controlled by terrorist jihadist fundamental groups.
In this vast region, act terrorist organizations’ such as Harakat al Shabaab al-Mujahideen more commonly known as al-Shabaab (Ανατολική Αφρική) but also Boko Haram-Islamic State West Africa Province (West Africa).

All these terrorist groups operating in this area are linked to Al Qaeda and ISIS, and all have connections and funding from the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) and Iran’s Intelligence Protection Organization of IRGC (SAHEFASA).
Turkey already has a large military base in Somalia and is looking to establish more bases in Libya, Sudan, and Tunisia. Essentially, we have an informal competition for who will gain the most influence in East Africa, the Bab al-Mandeb Mandeb Straits in the Red Sea and the Arabian Peninsula and the entire Middle East equally.
Iran has begun to appear dynamically in this African scene through mercenary companies in the African Republic Centre (CAR), and always in cooperation with the Turks.
Iran has played a role in the development of terrorist organizations on the African continent. Iran has funded and continues to fund but has trained and run hundreds of Islamist rebel groups, while the role and influence of Iranians in Africa has so far been shrouded in mystery.
Iran is also active in Nigeria and South Africa, while through Hezbollah it is active in West Africa.
At the same time, Turkey’s second ally after Iran in the Middle East, Qatar, wields influence and provides funding to Tunisia. Turkey and Qatar want to establish a “joint military training centre” in Tunisia, which will of course be fully funded by Qatar. We must not escape the fact that Qatar is a political ally and is funding the Islamic right-wing Ennahda Party in Tunisia.
Qatar and Turkey are trying in every way to increase their political and military influence in Senegal. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has visited the Republic of Mali, Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Republic of Senegal, Republic of Niger, People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, and Togolese Republic (West Africa countries and former colonies of France). This is the reason for the deep conflict between France and Turkey.
To all this one can add the unlimited funding that Turkey and Iran receive from China which China is also looking for the creation of military and naval bases in West Africa since it has a naval base in the Red Sea.
Unless the European part of the West (EU) wakes up and takes action (only France has realized this because its former colonies in West, Central and North Africa are now at risk respectively from the invasion of Turkey), soon the EU will find itself surrounded by terrorist jihadist organizations’ controlled by Turkey and Iran.
