Rheinmetall has received a significant order from the German Army for the FV-014 mobile munition system. Deliveries are scheduled for the first half of 2027, after completion of certification tests from the second quarter of 2026.
The framework of the agreement reaches 2.4 billion euros, while the first order amounts to approximately 300 million euros.
The FV-014 is an autonomous reconnaissance and strike drone. Electric, with a range of up to 100 kilometers, carries a 6-kilogram warhead, has a total weight of 20 kilograms, and can remain in the air for up to 70 minutes, tracking targets before hitting them. It is manufactured entirely in the European Union. Its software includes the ability to operate in swarms of the same drones, while much of the construction will be done from already standardized parts, so that it can be produced quickly.
The German armed forces are not stopping here, as they have also placed orders for unmanned aerial vehicles and especially for the type of munitions that can be moved around with other domestic companies, such as Helsing, which already has a framework agreement worth close to half a billion for the HX-2 model. If other orders are also taken into account, such as those for development programs, research, and so on, Germany is planning a huge budget for unmanned aerial vehicles of all types, as well as for systems to counter them, from guns, jammers, missiles, rockets, along with detection systems.
