USA: Intense rumors of a coup in Democratic states after Kirk’s assassination

An unprecedented event is taking place in the American military establishment. US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has called nearly 800 senior officers—generals, admirals and their key advisers—to an emergency meeting in Quantico, Virginia, on September 30.

The gathering, which violates traditional Pentagon procedures, has caused intense concern in defense and political circles in Washington. There is talk of an unprecedented mobilization, which is likely to be linked to deep strategic reshuffles, massive personnel cuts and – according to extreme scenarios circulating on social networks – even fears of a military coup in states governed by Democrats.

Coup scenarios

There is growing concern over rumors on social media that Hegseth is seeking the military’s allegiance to Donald Trump, in the context of a possible imposition of martial law and a clash with the “deep state” following the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The scenario states that the Trump administration may attempt to overthrow Democratic states, even arresting Democratic lawmakers, which could lead to a backlash within the military – possibly a coup.

Hegseth himself has publicly rejected the possibility of a coup, while at the same time promoting radical changes in the military’s leadership, removing officers considered “anti-Trump” and those involved with the diversity and inclusion agenda.

Leadership purges

The Trump administration’s tenure has been accompanied by purges at the top of the military hierarchy.
Among those removed are:

  • Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Charles Brown
  • Coast Guard Commander, Admiral Linda Fagan,
  • Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Lisa Franchetti
  • Air Force Chief of Staff, General James Salif
  • Other senior officers

In parallel, Hegseth has ordered additional cuts of 10% to senior officers and 20% to the National Guard Command.

Silence, Muzzle and Ban on Information Gathering

The move was accompanied by a ban on journalists from gathering any information without express permission from the Department of Defense. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell himself confirmed only that “the secretary will address the highest military leadership,” declining to clarify the topic or reasons for the meeting.

War readiness scenario

The order was given to all officers with the rank of brigadier general and above, even those in war zones around the world. The personal presence of all is considered “mandatory”.

The timing is indicative:

  • The rhetoric surrounding the alleged violation of NATO airspace by Russian fighters is increasing tension.
  • Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte have clearly stated that in the event of a violation, Russian aircraft must be shot down.
  • Washington appears to be hardening its stance towards Russia, not only rhetorically but also at the level of strategic planning.

20% reduction in generals – Hegseth’s restructuring plan

The main reason for the mobilization is the implementation of a drastic cuts plan, which foresees a reduction in the number of generals and admirals by 20%. This is a measure that seeks to align the military leadership with the new structure of the Ministry of Defense and shift strategic priorities.

Reorientation of forces – From Europe to the Western Hemisphere

At the center of the discussion is also reportedly the geostrategic shift of American forces. The former commander of US forces in Europe, Ben Hodges, estimates that Washington is planning to withdraw troops from Europe and strengthen its presence in the Western Hemisphere, with an emphasis on the zone from Greenland to the Panama Canal and especially in Venezuela and the Caribbean region.

Recently, four ships were attacked in the Caribbean, three of which reportedly belonged to Venezuela – a country with which the US maintains tense relations, accusing it of drug trafficking.

US-Europe disconnection and the “self-preservation doctrine”

Amidst all this, Europe watches in silence, without a clear role or ability to influence developments. After the US distanced itself from the fronts of Ukraine, Syria and Africa, the image that emerges is of an America that is returning to “introversion with military realism”, and that does not rule out any possibility.

The “America First” doctrine is back in the spotlight — only this time it is not accompanied by statements, but by silent mobilizations.

Everything is changing in the US armed forces

The gathering of 800 top military officers at the heart of the US military command may signal something much deeper than simple personnel movements. Whether it is a strategic realignment, a leadership purge, or preparation for political developments, the only certainty is that the United States is entering a time of instability and radical change in its military and political landscape. October will be decisive.
