The participation of the American oil company, Chevron, together with HELLENiQ Energy, in the international tender for the granting of the right to explore and exploit hydrocarbons in the marine areas south of Crete and south of the Peloponnese has been announced. The two companies jointly expressed interest in all four areas included in the tender (“Block A2”, “South of the Peloponnese”, “South of Crete 1” and “South of Crete 2”, with a total area of 47 thousand square kilometers).
The Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Stavros Papastavrou, stated: “Today, the Chevron and Helleniq Energy consortium announced its participation in the international tender for the 4 offshore blocks south of Crete and the Peloponnese. Thus, it opens a new chapter for the exploitation of the underwater energy wealth of our Homeland. This is a development of hope and perspective for our country. Greece, with national self-confidence, is laying solid foundations for its energy self-sufficiency and leveraging its geopolitical position in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is fulfilling its duty to our children and future generations, implementing its commitments for an energy-secure, investment-attractive and geopolitically strong Greece. Starting tomorrow, we are moving forward even more decisively, faster, unlocking our country’s potential for progress and prosperity for all Greek women and men.”
It is recalled that the competition for the three plots south of Crete and the Peloponnese was launched following an interest expressed by Chevron.
