Humidity: What are the effects on our body?

The weather is known to affect our body and health. What are the effects when the humidity in the atmosphere is increased?

1. Increase in body temperature and dehydration

High levels of humidity in the atmosphere can cause excessive sweating in the body. At the same time, they make the evaporation of sweat difficult, as a result of which moisture remains on the skin and reduces the ability of our body to cool down effectively. This causes the body temperature to rise, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Symptoms can include dizziness, headaches, fast heartbeat, and even fainting.

Children, the elderly, the obese and the sick are particularly vulnerable to the dangers of hot and humid weather. Men sweat more than women and thus are more at risk of dehydration. Therefore, there is a need for hydration, which we must not forget winter-summer.

2. Respiratory problems

For people with asthma, COPD or other respiratory conditions, high humidity can make these problems worse. Humid air can cause the airways to constrict, leading to shortness of breath, wheezing and discomfort. In addition, high humidity promotes the growth of allergens such as dust mites and dust, causing allergic reactions. In these cases it is beneficial to consult your doctor.

3. Skin problems

High humidity combined with heat can lead, as we said, to excessive sweating, which clogs pores and causes acne or skin irritations. Conditions such as rashes and worsening of eczema or psoriasis symptoms are common in wet environments. Managing these effects includes regular cleansing, wearing breathable clothing, and using non-food products to maintain healthier skin. Our doctor can guide us naturally and in this case appropriately.

4. Stress and reduced concentration

High humidity can lead to irritability and difficulty concentrating. Studies show that heat and humidity can negatively affect mood and cognitive function, making people more susceptible to stress.

5. Weather and fatigue

High humidity puts additional stress on the body during exercise as it struggles to effectively regulate its temperature. This can lead to increased heart rate, fatigue and reduced endurance, affecting physical performance. So even more attention is needed when in hot and humid weather we do gymnastics or a job that requires intense physical activity. We should drink enough water, wear the right clothes and eat small meals but more often.
