The largest acquisition in its history was carried out today by the German Bosch, which takes over the heating, ventilation and air conditioning activities of the American company Johnson Controls for 7.4 billion dollars. The acquisition also includes 100% of the air conditioning technology joint venture between Johnson Controls and Japan’s Hitachi. Bosch is now a leader in the international market for air conditioning and heat pumps.
Of the total amount of the acquisition, $6.7 billion goes to Johnson Controls and the rest to Hitachi, which owns 40% of the air-conditioning consortium founded in 2015.
This is the largest acquisition in the history of Bosch, which now acquires a leading position worldwide and an “important milestone for the consistent implementation of Strategy 2030”. The group, which already held a significant position in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning market, “expands with this step and strengthens its presence in the US and Asia, achieving a better balance between its business lines.” In 2023 Johnson Controls and its joint venture with Hitachi recorded sales of €4 billion.
The acquired businesses employ approximately 12,000 people worldwide, and the transaction includes 16 manufacturing facilities and 12 development facilities in more than 30 countries. When the acquisition is completed, in about a year’s time, Bosch is estimated to have a total of more than 26,000 employees and an annual turnover of 9 billion euros.
