Russia: Photonic technology radar to counter Western drones and 5th-6th generation fighters

Powerful Russian Radio Photonic technology radars are being prepared, which will detect even small targets in a confined space by the company KRET, a subsidiary of Rostec. It is certain that we will see something in the next period, especially on the Ukrainian front.

Photonic radars are smaller than classic radars as announced at the Army 2019 military exhibition. Unlike traditional radars, they process the signal with optical parameters and not with UHF signals. The main advantage of the new radar is that it will produce a 3D portrait of the object and determine the type of target in 3D.

Photonic radars will be installed on fighter jets

Modern Russian radars will produce an electronic emission which will be reflected by the objects it detects, thus directly transmitting a signal to the receiving equipment. Photonic radars optically process the signal with an extremely wide bandpass that provides many advantages.

  • First, the radars are much smaller.
  • Second, they are more reliable and resistant to electronic and magnetic emissions.
  • Third and most importantly, this radio photonic radar is not affected by known electronic and electromagnetic interference techniques, because it works on a completely different basis.

They detect a target, determine its flight parameters, produce a 3D image, and determine the type of object they are tracking. New radar technologies are likely to be used to create Russia’s sixth-generation fighter jet.

Modern radars have no problem with processing the parameters of the target’s flight, but they do not have high resolution power. Photonic radars will provide 3D image target information to the pilot. It is the most convenient method for the same to act.

Long-term research has begun to develop photonic radar for airborne, surface, low-flying, and space-based targets.

With this type of radar, the operator will instantly know in real time, what type of aircraft, cruise missile, satellite or warship has appeared on the screen, changing everything we knew until now.
