The Ukrainians hit a Russian military airfield on the Crimean peninsula

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that Ukrainian armed forces had struck a Russian military airfield on the Crimean peninsula, congratulating General Sirsky for the operation.

“Today, the Ukrainian armed forces managed a precision strike against the occupiers in Dzhankoy, at an airport,” Zelensky said in a video message released this evening. “Thank you, warriors. Thank you for your accuracy. I thank the head of the armed forces (Olexandr) Sirsky for organizing this operation,” he added.

The Ukrainian president also expressed his thanks to all soldiers participating in “special operations” to destroy enemy military infrastructure.

Ukraine launches one of the most successful missile strikes against Russia so far. Initial reports say 2 ATACMS with cluster munitions hit an airfield in Jankoi, Crimea, destroying an S-400, 2 S-300 launchers, radar and a large stockpile of air defense missiles.

The Dzhankoy region is located in the northern part of Crimea, the Ukrainian peninsula that Russia annexed in 2014. According to Ukrainian officials, the wider area has become Russia’s largest military base on the Crimean peninsula.
