Why are young people now flirting through Instagram?

Over the years, among other things, the way we flirt has changed, as most people choose the texting method.

What did you do years ago if you wanted to meet a girl? You would approach her, talk to her and either walk away with your head bowed in shame, or with her phone number on a piece of paper and a triumphant smile on your face. How are you today; You send a meme to Instagram and that’s it.

Because according to Instagram’s official 2023 dating trends report, 50% of Gen Z social media users responded positively when asked if they’ve ever sent a meme as a first message to a potential date.

But why did memes become the first major sign of flirting? Because they have the ability to bring people together, making them laugh, thus replacing texting.

In dating, the new generation feels that the way a person responds to a meme can also say a lot about them.

Is it for example up to date on new trends, or has a sense of humor that matches mine, or even the same interests. It all depends on the response that follows a meme.

Young people, whether Gen Z or millennials, prefer to date from social media and especially Instagram, because that’s where they spend their whole lives.

According to Instagram’s 2023 trends report, more than half of Gen Z social media users are more comfortable being vulnerable online and via text than they are in person.

The #love hashtag is the most used Instagram hashtag of all time, with over 2 billion uses. However, as much as Gen Z and millennials are online, a survey conducted by data aggregator Singles Reports found that nearly 80% of those surveyed experience fatigue and emotional burnout from online dating.

They also supposedly have less sex than teenagers in the 90s.
