NATO’s response to the huge concentration of troops that Wagner is attempting in Belarus is immediate.
The Pentagon has announced the deployment of thousands of US reservists to Europe who will focus mainly on administrative and logistical tasks to “support and sustain a massive troop presence for an extended period of time”.
The deployment of even American reservists on European soil heralds the deployment of over 1 million troops.
At the same time, NATO’s plan for “coming war with Russia” was announced, which was recently approved at the NATO Conference in Lithuania. The 4,000-page plan includes the following provisions:
- deployment of 300,000 NATO military personnel on the Russian border; These forces will be on high alert.
- The supreme commander of NATO forces in Europe will be able to take certain decisions without consulting the alliance.
- Germany will become the most important logistics hub for the alliance forces. A second NATO ground force headquarters in Wiesbaden, Germany is even planned.
- In addition, the major NATO countries have created areas of responsibility for the states on the eastern side of the alliance: Germany in Lithuania, Great Britain in Estonia and Canada in Latvia.
- NATO intends to strengthen the protection of pipelines and other critical infrastructure.
- The alliance intends to strengthen units with heavy weapons, increase the stockpile of long-range missiles and artillery systems.
- The 100,000 American soldiers will remain in Europe.
This means that NATO forces, taking into account auxiliary units, will amount to more than one million soldiers.
US Army reservists are being called up to support operations in Europe!
The United States is increasing its military presence in Europe, bolstering its bases in European countries with additional military forces. So US President Joe Biden decided to call up 3,000 reservists for military service. Reserves will be sent to Europe. It is not yet clear exactly where the additional US forces will be deployed.
It is possible that the US will deploy several new Brigades on NATO’s eastern side, and this is due to the ongoing Russian special military operation. If this happens, then the US will indeed abrogate the NATO-Russia founding treaty.
“This [executive order] reaffirms unwavering US support and commitment to the defense of NATO’s eastern flank in the wake of Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war in Ukraine,” Lt. Gen. Douglas Sims, director of operations for the Joint Staff. This operation will be classified as a contingency operation, Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Sims II said.
While the move gives the military’s European Command “greater flexibility” to defend the continent, it will not change actual force levels in Europe, said Capt. Bill Speaks, representative of the US European Administration.
The US president’s order allows the Pentagon to call up reserve forces and deploy expedited forces to equip those troops. The US sent 20,000 extra troops to Europe after the Russian invasion, bringing the total to over 100,000 on the continent.
