How should the loss of work from ChatGPT be handled?

More and more workers fear that Artificial Intelligence will steal their jobs. In practice, however, they will have to “embrace” Artificial Intelligence.

It is currently difficult for a machine like ChatGPT to be able to compete with the quality of work produced by a worker in a specific work-office position. To be sure, however, many workers are concerned about how quickly ChatGPT has become so sophisticated. It is a fact that with its development rates in a few years a bot can do the job of a current employee just as well. The working future of all workers seems to be graying”.

In recent years, as AI tools like ChatGPT have become more accessible, some workers report starting to feel anxious about their future and whether the skills they have will be relevant to the job market in the coming years.

In March, Goldman Sachs published a report showing that artificial intelligence could replace the equivalent of 300 million full-time jobs. Last year, PwC’s annual global workforce survey showed that nearly a third of respondents were worried about the prospect of their role being replaced by technology within the next three years.

Most creators hope that their customers will recognize their value and choose the authenticity of a human over the low cost and convenience of AI tools.

Now, HR experts say that while some stress may be justified, employees should focus on what they can control. Instead of panicking about potentially losing their jobs to machines, they should invest in learning how to work alongside technology. If they see it as a resource rather than a threat, they will become more valuable to potential employers – and feel less stressed.

Fear of the unknown

For some people, AI tools have invaded our lives with too much momentum. OpenAI’s ChatGPT went viral overnight, and the AI race is picking up speed every day, creating constant uncertainty for workers.

It’s normal for workers to feel anxious about the impact of AI because its evolution is fluid and there are many unknown implementation factors.

But as unsettling as the new technology is, workers don’t necessarily need to feel that their existence is threatened. People have the power to make their own decisions about how worried they are: they can either “choose to feel anxiety about AI or have the power to learn about it and use it to their advantage.

Team up with the robots

Technological progress has shown us that technology has the potential to automate or streamline work processes. However, with the right skill set, individuals are often able to progress alongside technological development. To feel less stressed about the rapid adoption of AI, employees need to embrace the technology. Education and training is key to helping employees learn about AI and what it can do for their specific role, as well as helping them develop new skills. Instead of avoiding artificial intelligence, employees should embrace it and train for it.

It may also be helpful to know that this is not the first time that workers and humans in general have faced challenges from automation. But each time they found ways to adapt. Indeed, the introduction of new technology has often been disruptive to some people. It should not escape us that technological change has always been a key ingredient in the progress of society.

Regardless of how humans respond to AI technology, artificial intelligence is here to stay. And it can be much more helpful to stay positive and look ahead. If people feel stressed instead of taking action to improve their skills, it will hurt them more than the AI itself.
