Necessary Tactical Knowledge of Conducting “Area Defence”

We must not forget that based on military tactics, the purpose of defensive operations is to absorb the offensive power of the attacked in order to create the right conditions for the defender to counterattack and destroy the attacking enemy.

According to the Doctrine of conducting military operations, in area defense, there are the security forces, the defense forces and the reserve forces.

Security forces are located in front of the main defensive location, scaled kilometers to meters away from it, such as the Covering Force, General Guards, Combat Guards, Local Security Elements, for the purpose of making contact with the enemy, verifying the of his strength, power and movements, but not to engage closely with him, intending to gain time by gradually moving backwards in order to enter the rear of the main defensive position.

At the main defensive location, at the forward location boundary (FOT), the defense forces are deployed, which constitute the bulk of the fighting forces in the area defense, with the mission of stopping the enemy.

Finally, at a distance behind the defense forces are the Reserve Forces, ready to intervene either by sealing any breach that the attacking enemy may create in the defensive location, or to carry out a counterattack with the aim of destroying the enemy.
