Glances At the Spectacles World

  • Bullet Train

2022-Action/Comedy – 2h 6m, 2,5-in scale: 1-5,

Director: David Leitch, Interpretations: Brad Pitt, Bad Bunny, Joey King, Sandra Bullock, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Karen Fukuhara.

Ladybug is an unlucky assassin who’s determined to do his job peacefully after one too many gigs has gone off the rails. Fate, however, may have other plans as his latest mission puts him on a collision course with lethal adversaries from around the globe — all with connected yet conflicting objectives — on the world’s fastest train.

The director of the enjoyable “Atomic Blonde” as well as “Deadpool 2”, David Lynch undertakes to drive the train of entertainment here, naturally having at his disposal the big trump card of a star of the caliber of Brad Pitt. The American actor maintains the persona he has presented us in other recent films as a killer who prefers flares to pistols, while also trying to follow the advice of his psychoanalyst in order to correct his disturbed Karma.

In general, the comedic action has the first say here, with sequences sometimes more and sometimes less successful, which nevertheless compose an entertaining set without greater “depth” or other visions. “Key” are certainly the characters, (for example an unexplained duo of British executors), at least in relation to the plot, which remains generally rudimentary and does not justify the full two hours of the duration. The positives, however, include the aesthetic, clearly influenced by Japanese comics and a peculiar futurism that contrasts with traditional methods preferred by the protagonist killers. Be that as it may, the splatter is plentiful in a purely adult film, which is nevertheless sprinkled with enough gold dust that it cannot be called a thriller.

Instead, winking at the viewer seems much more frequent, as well as references to other films of the genre. The “star” cameos from actors such as Channing Tatum, Michael Shannon and Sandra Bullock are included in the same logic.
