The Geopolitical Significance of Kazakhstan

Violent riots in Kazakhstan have led to the ouster of President Kasim Comert Tokayev’s government, prompting him to name foreign provocateurs as instigators of the violent protests. Russia wants to control her southern soft belly and immediately sent:

1. A Russian transport aircraft for unloading vehicles.

2. Russian airborne troops and at the call of the President of Kazakhstan Kasim Comert Tokayev, for intervention of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) accusing at the same time trained foreign terrorist gangs riots in his country. The CSTO is a military alliance of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Russia with the open front of Ukraine,

3. It sent Russian selected airborne battalions (VDVs) with 70 transports to Kazakhstan as part of the CSTO peacekeeping mission. They consist of the 76th Airborne Division and the 45th Airborne Regiment Spetsnaz as a rapid reaction force with a high level of firepower. They are accompanied by the special unit Rosgvardiya which specializes in the areas of counter-insurgency and repression of local populations in case of occupation.

The unrest is likely to stem from the fact that Kazakhstan recently bought drones and weapons from Turkey (2021), a NATO country, while relations between Kazakhstan and Turkey have shown significant progress in recent times.

This progress has been made due to the fact that Kazakhstan wants to join the Organization of Turkish States and given the great linguistic and cultural affinity of five Central Asian and Caucasian states with Turkey.

The people of all these countries, including Kazakhstan, adopt the religion of Islam. The fact that the President of Kazakhstan requested the help of the CSTO, Russia, as the head of the CSTO, seized the opportunity to officially enter Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, Syria and Crimea.

Why these riots?

  1. The abolition of Russian as the official state language.
  2. The transition to the Latin alphabet.
  3. The union of the Turkish states gives the image of a Russia that is very annoyed.
  4. The necessary consent of Kazakhstan to pass through it “the Silk Road” shows that China definitely wants Kazakhstan in its sphere of influence. An element that contrasts with the West.
  5. Kazakhstan has vast natural resources such as oil, gas, gold, copper, uranium and agricultural production.
  6. Kazakhstan is home to the historic Baikonur Cosmodrome, which is at the heart of Russia’s 2050 space program.
  7. Kazakhstan is an apple of discord between Russia-China-Turkey, while the West can not control it.
  8. So a Russia-Turkey-China conflict with the West pushing Turkey into this war of interests.

The examples of Georgia and Nagorno-Karabakh show that Russia is using the CSTO as a tool to consolidate its politico-military influence in the geopolitical region of its interests. The presence of the Russian population of Kazakhstan provides the Kremlin with lucrative ground for intervention, with Russia gaining control. In contrast, the Organization of Turkish-speaking States does not have a common rapid military force.

If all goes well, Russia will have demonstrated its power over the West by not allowing anyone to interfere in its historically own “zone of influence.”
