Northern Macedonia: Instability Reappears in the Balkans

Following the announcement of his resignation from the post of Prime Minister and that of the President of his party respectively, Zoran Zaef will try to clarify the reasons why he did so.

It was a choice of tactics and an impressive move, in order to show that he is the only solution for Northern Macedonia; The truth is that Zoran Zaef was very popular in both Europe and the USA. Especially after the signing of the Prespa Agreement and the signing of the Friendship Agreement with Bulgaria, with his resignation he surprised all those who had invested geopolitically in his presence and now see themselves losing their man in a key country for security and stability in Southern Balkans.

The United States believes that the country’s European accession process should be kept alive, pointing a finger at Europeans for their responsibilities in the resignation of Zoran Zaef and a signal to stop closing the door on Northern Macedonia and the other candidate countries. of the Western Balkans.

Zoran Zaef may be leaving the executive branch, but he has changed almost nothing in the way he governs, pursuing a policy of partisan control of the state, the media and the economy, respectively, establishing a special social democratic system of power that was steeped in corruption. At the same time he tried to settle hot issues such as the conflicts with Greece and Bulgaria and at home between the Slavo-Macedonians and the Albanians.

In Northern Macedonia, instability and poverty are intensifying and at the same time ethnic differences are intensifying at home. It is known that Albanians and Slavs live together by force and Bulgaria considers (unofficially) its second compatriots and officially the Macedonian language as Bulgarian.

The EU is also accused of delaying the accession of all the Western Balkans at the initiative of France, thus facilitating the penetration of Russia primarily – because Serbia finds a foothold there – and Turkey secondarily, while contributing to regional instability.

The EU counter-arguments are:
• widespread corruption as a way of life and administration, along with delay.
• the large backlogs that were created and not settled after the demarcation of new borders.
• The Balkan peoples, however, are integrating into Europe through migration.
