Unbeknownst to most people, there are some everyday items we have in our house or even foods that we eat that are radioactive. More specifically:
• Bananas
Bananas are a fruit rich in potassium. But the potassium found in bananas is radioactive. Bananas contain minimal amounts of radioactivity, so we must continue to eat them. You need to eat a huge amount of them to get the potassium to that level in your body, to feel the radiation poisoning, which will manifest in your body causing vomiting.
• Brazil Nuts
The roots of the tree can reach deep into the ground and absorb chemicals such as radon. It is possible to detect the element of radium a thousand times more in Brazil nuts than in any other food.
• Cat Litter
When cat litter is removed, it essentially removes radioactive waste. Some of the sand products used in your home for your cat, in terms of its waste, contain what is known as bentonite clay which contains small but detectable levels of uranium 238, thorium and potassium 40. These elements are the most common radioactive substances in your homes and are excellent products to absorb cat litter.
• Smoke Detectors
Some household smoke detectors use small amounts of a radioactive isotope, americium-241, to warn when there is smoke in the air. The material is surrounded by ceramic material and aluminum foil, and does not harm you. But if something goes wrong or a mistake is made by the construction company, then you are probably exposed to it.
• Tobacco leaves for Cigarettes
Tobacco plants, similar to bananas and Brazilian walnuts, can absorb radioactive elements such as radium, lead 210 and polonium 210 from certain fertilizers used in crops.
