EU: Why it misses the opportunity to become a Geopolitical Superpower?

A geopolitical superpower is constantly moving on the geopolitical chessboard with the aim of shaping developments and not following behind the developments shaping other countries. Only a superpower can set the terms and conditions on the geopolitical chessboard of countries, and no country dares to take crucial action without at least informing it first.

The fact that the US created AUKUS without even informing the EU shows that the EU does not belong to the category of geopolitical powers. Essentially for the US, UK, and Australia, the EU inspires no respect. Can this situation for the EU change or gradually lead the great European venture into disrepute?

The mistake of the European Union

The mistake of the EU that has led to the current situation is that it has chosen to proceed with the phase of its enlargement, but at the expense of the even greater deepening between its existing member countries. The result shows that her choice did not work out. Everyone expected that the EU would gradually move towards becoming a new “United States of Europe”.

European Union or the United States of Europe

The fact that it remained a European Union and did not evolve into a United States of Europe is due to the fact that by choosing to expand instead of deepening, the countries that entered from Eastern Europe as new members of the European Union, with their attitude to date show, in matters of security and defense, to prefer NATO rather than the creation of a European army.

The consequence of this was the division of the European Union into de facto groups of countries. But the relations of the countries that are grouped each time depend on the outcome of the negotiations.

A major geopolitical blow to the European Union was Brexit, showing that the European venture is not working in practice. The fact that the European Union can not move forward is due to the fact that the EU has always given the impression that it had big plans, but in fact what prevailed was the compromises that devalued every effort in the end.

Why only compromises

Only compromises because European countries have not reached the level of collective maturity to cede their national sovereignty to a supranational institution. This indicates that member countries want to decide on their own for their security isues. If the European Union does not see the truth in order to make the appropriate changes and adjustments, its behavior as a state, without being in practice, will lead to its geopolitical devaluation.

Ways to adjust for the European Union

Once we have identified the problem and the source of the problem, what will change the current situation is how the EU adapts to the problem it has already identified. This can only be achieved if there is a really great leader who will unite the other leaders of the member states in a new path, but a path that will require a strategic vision on his part, based on real foundations.

But the leader must understand the issues that the EU is lacking in and resolve them. The energy and security sectors are inextricably linked. However, this is not understood by the EU Commission. When everyone sees an “energy winter” with a sharp rise in energy prices, all the member countries’ Energy Ministers do in Brussels is to announce interventions and monitor energy prices.

The failed policy of the EU is that it has adopted the green transition, believing that this strict policy will be adopted by other powerful countries in the world, such as the USA, China, and India. Imposing taxes and duties on products from non-green countries will result in a corresponding tax on EU products. In essence, the EU has been caught in the wrong policy, losing a competitive advantage over the other powerful economies that continue to use it to generate coal-fired power (please read the analysis entitled “Green Transition: the EU is “shooting” itself“).

On the one hand, they are crying about the fact that the EU It is increasingly dependent on Russia for energy and on the other hand is doing nothing about developments in the Eastern Mediterranean that would ensure Europe’s energy security. The European South is coming together to better understand its interests, while the Commission, due to Germany’s energy security from Russia, cannot advance the EU ‘s basic interests.

In this case, the EU would pursue policies that would reduce its economic and energy dependence on countries such as Russia, Turkey and Azerbaijan respectively. That is why everyone is laughing at the geopolitical Commission and the EU, which is trying to function as a state in the international environment, and on the other hand the Commission and the EU themselves are supporting Turkey’s extremism against Greece-Cyprus, through which the Turkey disputes colossally secured sovereign rights of the powerful European economic interest. So how do countries like the US, China and the UK want to take the Commission and the EU seriously?
