The New French Frigates-FDI for Hellenic Navy

The three new frigates recently ordered from Greece to the French Naval Group will have full air defense and anti-submarine warfare equipment and capabilities to capture air targets at very long distances.

Greece will acquire three FDI frigates with the 32-cell version, ie Greek FDI frigates will be able to have 32 Aster 30 anti-aircraft missiles loaded in parallel, whose range is estimated at 120 kilometers. They will be equipped with the leading SeaFire radar that will see in a radius of 250 kilometers in combination with the 30-star anti-aircraft missiles, will be able to put against opposing targets located on the horizon 150 km away from the frigate.

In essence, the new frigates will offer air defense area to warships at distances exceeding 100 km and at the same time will have anti-ballistic capabilities.

The frigate’s armament is complemented by an advanced 76mm cannon as well as a 21-missile RAM system that completes the new frigate’s anti-aircraft / anti-missile shield.In addition, they will carry the world champion CAPTAS-4 sonar. The anti-submarine armament is complemented by state-of-the-art anti-submarine torpedoes.

Anti-ship armaments include the most advanced “digital” Exocet mm40 block 3c with long-range impact capability, while at the same time they are even more likely to hit offshore targets. In addition, they will carry the French battle information center SETIS.
