Australia: New Era in Uncharted Waters?

The announcement of the formation of the AUKUS alliance through the acquisition of nuclear-powered submarines for Australia strengthens Australia’s relations with the United States, even if it means escalating its tension with China.

Australia is the key country-continent in controlling the Pacific-Indian Ocean. The fact that the Japanese in World War II failed to control and conquer the Pacific Ocean was caused because they could never move their military units and conquer Australia.

The benefits for Australia are obvious:

  • Australia becomes part of the closed Club of countries that have nuclear-powered submarines with state-of-the-art technology.
  • Australia departures from the tradition that used to keep it away from anything was related to the use of nuclear energy. This era is ended.
  • Australia is upgraded politically as becomes a world power with the acquisition of nuclear-powered submarines.
  • Australia’s submarines will now be able to navigate from the Indian Ocean to the Northeast Pacific Ocean, enabling more information to be collected without tiring crews and the under surface vessels respectively.
  • Australia’s armaments program as well as the acquisition of know-how will be extended to other weapons systems of American Technology like Satellite, missiles, fighter jets etc.
  • Australia will become intercontinental and ballistic missile base with targeting capabilities on other continents.
  • Australia enters in a position of strength from the position of weakness it had in its relations with China. The phase of political neutrality ends.
  • Australia’s nuclear-powered submarines as well as tomahawk missiles raise cost for China in case of military conflict with Australia.
