Perhaps the biggest political scandal in the United States since the Watergate scandal-which included the administration of U.S. President Richard Nixon (1972-1974) that led to Nixon’s resigning-only this time the story unfolds in reverse and begins to unfold after CNN’s revelations through the presentation of documents documenting that Chinese authorities knew about Covid-19 in 2019 and tried to cover up the spread of the epidemic.

At the same time, the Republican party and US President Donald Trump directly accuse CNN and other US media of knowing about these documents long before the November 3 presidential election but did not publish them in order to lose the election.

On the other hand, Donald Trump is directly vindicated when he directly accuses China of withholding evidence in connection with the proliferation and existence of Covid-19 on American soil. At the same time, Donald Trump and his supporters accuse the systemic US media of spreading China’s propaganda against the US President in recent months.
The chronicle of the emergence of the scandal
On Monday, November 30, 2020, CNN exclusively published the findings of the expansion of 117 official documents, which, through a leak from China, were taken over by the network’s journalists.
According to the data obtained from the investigation, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) of the Chinese province of Hubei, whose capital is Wuhan – the primary centre of the pandemic – the Chinese Government knew from the outset about this disease which it underestimated, withheld and practically concealed from the world community the spread of a new pandemic such as Covid-19 disease.

Subsequently new investigation by the Wall Street Journal claims that the spread of the pandemic had already begun in the US as of December 17, 2019 and weeks before China admitted to being affected by SARS-Cov-2 disease.
Between 13-16 December 2019 samples were taken from the States of California, Washington, and Oregon. Of these 39 samples were positive and an additional 67 samples were tested from 30 December 2019 to 17 January 2020 and the diagnosis was positive.
Officially China had not informed the World Health Organization (WHO) before 31 December 2019. On 08 January 2020, the WHO announced for the first time that there should be calm because there is a disease that causes a strange type of pneumonia in China.
It should be remembered that Donald Trump was quick to understand the seriousness of the situation and spoke of hiding the true evidence on behalf of China.
The Republican party, along with the Fox News network competing with CNN, attacked CNN for Chinese propaganda that had been parroting for months and the persistently hostile stance against Donald Trump.
The serious issues that arise
For the first time it is proven through documents that have been made public and could be considered evidence that China (either fraudulently or without deceit) was announcing falsified data, concealing the magnitude of the threat to global health.
If these documents are presumed to be evidence, then it paves the way for lawsuits in U.S. Courts where both citizens and States of the U.S. state could claim a total of billions in damages against China.
If there is a judgment in this matter by a US Court of Justice, a judicial precedent will be set, followed by other such decisions asking the Chinese state to make billions in damages.
In this case, the EU and all the allied countries of the United States and the West in general will do the same.
Certainly, China rejects any accusations against it vehemently and in such a situation will try not to recognize any judicial decisions of the American Courts.
But if there are such court rulings against China, the administration of the new US Presidency (2020-2024) will use them to “squeeze” China, pushing it either to pay the qualifying compensation-in such a case will bring the Chinese economy to its knees economically by losing any comparative advantage it has gained due to the proper management of the pandemic on its territory-or otherwise the entire Western world with the first of the US will impose a total ban on exports of Chinese products in the whole of the West.

In the second case the economic impact will be the same as the first alternative offered but will create a new global “cold war” through an iron trade, economic, political, and military curtain.
The US Presidency, Donald Trump, and the systemic US media
For the first time in U.S. history, a U.S. President can accuse in the U.S. Courts of specific systemic media in his country of accusations that they fraudulently concealed the truth to the American people, mocking and in doing so underestimating the President of the country in the eyes of the people and the rest of the world with the aim of losing votes and defeating him in the Presidential election, and even accusations of national treason as they supported China’s positions in weight of the positions of the President of the United States for many months.
If in the Watergate scandal the media exposed then-US President Richard Nixon and his administration for wiretapping his political opponents, today history repeats itself in reverse since it is the media that concealed (with or without purpose) the truth in order to present them after the election in order to provoke the defeat of a particular candidate of a particular party of executive power.
If these documents were presented before the election then the Republican party and its presidential candidate Donald Trump would have an increased chance of winning the election because what the then President said would vindicate him in the eyes of the American people.
If Donald Trump’s accusations to date are added both for tampering with the election result-rigging in certain US states (please read the analysis entitled “Why Donald Trump wants the US Supreme Court to seal the Outcome of the Presidential elections?) as well as the accusations to a particular multinational pharmaceutical company that he had found the vaccine for Covid-19 before the election but waited until after the election to announce it and all this turns out to be true, then we are talking about the greatest alteration of the will of public opinion & electorate body before the elections at the expense of a particular candidate and a particular party.
The question is how will President Joe Biden react to such media actions (if Donald Trump’s accusations prove true)? Will it put bills for tougher control and accountability of the media for similar cases? Or things will be left as it is challenging the fury of Republicans waiting for them to come back to executive power to avenge this media.
How to manage all these really difficult and sensitive issues so that the truth that redeems the American nation can come to light without, however, leading US society into deep division at a critical time when the unity and trust of the American people towards its leaders must be solid in order to face like a feast all together the challenges of the new era, it is purely a matter of the institution of American Justice.
