Sweden and Ukraine announced that they have signed an agreement for the sale of up to 150 JAS-39E/F Gripen fighter jets. The signing of the agreement took place in Sweden, in the presence of the country’s Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky praised the specific aircraft, describing them as among the best fighters in the world and saying that their acquisition is a priority for Ukraine. In May 2024, Sweden had announced that it would not ultimately send JAS-39 Gripen to Ukraine, as the simultaneous introduction of two different fighter jets, the JAS-39 Gripen and the American F-16, was considered complicated. The cost of the potential purchase was not announced, nor was the timetable.
