The US Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, has revealed declassified documents that she claims document the existence of “overwhelming evidence” that the Barack Obama administration, before and after the 2016 presidential election, laid the foundation for the multi-year investigation into alleged “Trump collusion with Russia.” According to Gabbard, in 2016, top Obama administration officials politicized intelligence agencies, aiming to create the conditions for a prolonged “institutional campaign to overthrow” the elected President, bypassing the popular verdict.

What do the documents reveal?
As the documents state:
Before the 2016 election, intelligence agencies agreed that Russia had neither the intent nor the ability to alter the outcome of the U.S. election through cyberattacks.
“But, just weeks after President Trump’s historic victory in 2016 over Hillary Clinton, everything changed.”
On December 8, 2016, a report was produced for the “President’s Daily Brief” which concluded that Russia did not influence the election outcome. However, the report was suddenly withdrawn before it was given to the president, with “new instructions”, and was never published.
The next day, December 9, James Comey (FBI), John Brennan (CIA), and James Clapper (DNI) met at the White House with Obama. The then-president reportedly ordered a new intelligence assessment, which would support the view of Russian interference – despite the contrary picture presented by previous reports from US security agencies in the preceding months.
Then, anonymous intelligence sources leaked selective information to media outlets like the Washington Post, presenting a narrative of “pro-Trump hacking by Moscow.”
The Politicization of Intelligence and the Role of the “Steele Dossier”
On January 6, 2017 – just days before Trump’s inauguration – Clapper presented the “revised” report, which was allegedly based in part on the non-existent Steele dossier, according to internal emails leaked by whistleblowers.
The documents allege that senior Obama administration officials orchestrated a conspiracy to undermine Trump and his term, damaging the credibility of the democratic process and US institutions.
Gabbard, who provided all the documents to the Justice Department, is calling for a full investigation and accountability for all involved.
“The integrity of our democracy demands justice. Everyone responsible must be investigated and held accountable,” she said.
