Glances At the Architecture World

Parthenon: How has it remained standing for 2,500 years without a foundation?

The secret is revealed after studies show that, despite the fact that the Parthenon temple on the Acropolis does not even have foundations, it has triple anti-earthquake shielding.

According to studies of its architectural and structural form, they showed that the Ancients had already discovered what we today call “earthquake insulation”. The temple successfully contradicts the theory of modern civil engineering, because without even having foundations, it is triple seismically insulated. This triple insulation, as he explained to us, is located in different parts of the building. The first point is in the layers of huge horizontal and extremely smooth marbles, on which the Parthenon stands.

The second is observed in the metal elastic joints that connect the plates of each layer, and in their center are small iron piles, around which lead has been poured (lead has the property of protecting iron from rust and of weakening any wave with its elasticity, since part of its kinetic energy is converted into thermal energy).

And the third is found in the columns of the building, which were not placed in one piece, since the ancient Greeks knew that in order to withstand the vibrations of the earth, they would have to be placed in slices, perfectly fitted one on top of the other.

The result of this triple insulating formula was that the surface seismic waves moved one layer of the marble slabs on top of the other, at the same time that the joints amplified the kinetic energy developed by the Earthquake! The columns, finally, in the way they were positioned, allowed the entire building to oscillate, but not collapse.
