The Nordic and Baltic countries have pledged to continue the war against Russia, as they announced in a joint statement on Ukraine. Specifically, these are eight countries: Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
“We stand fully and firmly behind Ukraine. Ukraine must be able to prevail in Russia’s aggressive war to secure a just and lasting peace.
The outcome of the war will have fundamental and long-term implications for European and transatlantic security.
Our priority now is to strengthen Ukraine. Our countries are some of the largest per capita contributors of military assistance to Ukraine. We will further strengthen our support. We are working with Ukraine, the United States and all our NATO Allies and EU partners on how to achieve peace through strength.
We are fully committed to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Ukraine must receive strong security guarantees. Ukraine and Europe must participate in any negotiations to achieve a just and lasting peace.
We are investing heavily in our defense. We are determined to further strengthen our collective security and defense and to shoulder our responsibility for peace and security in Europe.”
The aggression against Russia, especially the Scandinavian countries (the Baltics are considered somewhat normal due to their past with the Soviet Union), is striking.
