The Fateful President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr Christodoulidis

Finally, the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulidis managed to have an informal meeting with the representative of the Turks of the occupied zone, Ersin Tatar.

The informal meeting, under the auspices of “Pontius Pilate” G.S. of the UN Antonio Guterres, was done with all formality and was duly presented as the start of mobility in the Cyprus issue!

The same fatal mistake has been repeated in recent decades, achieving the permanent exoneration of Turkey.

The Cyprus issue is not a difference between the two national communities, but a problem of invasion, occupation, ethnic cleansing and colonization by Turkey.

Does N. Christodoulidis believe that the resident of Ankara E. Tatar will solve the Cyprus problem? We think he is not so naive.

So why, for months, has he been declaring his readiness to immediately resume contacts and talks with the separatist entity, in order to, as he says, “break the deadlock”?

After the informal meeting in New York, Mr. Christodoulidis confessed that: “We did not hear anything new from Mr. Tatar.”

What was he waiting for? To accept the reunification of the Republic of Cyprus, the return of the refugees and their property, or perhaps the withdrawal of the occupation troops?

Turkey, through its president Tayyip Erdogan and his ministers, has long since declared that the only solution it accepts is the recognition of the occupied zone as an independent state.

In other words, he wants the legalization, from the Greek side and consequently from the international community, of the results of the invasion of 1974. Nothing less. He wants a second Turkish state on the territory of Cyprus.

The governments in Athens and Nicosia as well as most political parties, with very few exceptions, “suck” the narrative of the Bi-Communal Federation (BCF), which, however, has already been rejected by Turkey.

What will be the exact content of the BCF? Everyone, depending on the situation and their political aspirations, gives it a different content. Will it be worse than the 1960 Constitution that made state governance impossible, or even worse than the provisions of the Annan Plan?

However, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, in a recent interview, stated that: “If a solution is reached, this one, I don’t want to mock the citizens, it will not be fair”.

So since Mr. Christodoulidis does not expect a fair solution, why is he downgrading the Republic of Cyprus and upgrading the self-proclaimed “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”?

Why does he accept himself, as the President of an internationally recognized state, a member of the United Nations, the European Union and other international organizations, to talk, as an equal to an equal, with a “President” that only Turkey recognizes?

Why is Mr. Guterres allowed to invite Mr. Tatar to the UN? What does he call him, together with Mr. Christodoulidis, as president of a state or as president of a separatist community seeking international recognition?

Mr. Mitsotakis, Mr. Christodoulidis, their ministers and the major political parties in Greece and Cyprus should know that:

“No conqueror withdraws voluntarily.”

For him to withdraw, the cost of conquest must be higher for him than any benefit.

Therefore, the appeasement policy, meetings, talks and Greek concessions with so-called Confidence Building Measures (CBM) with the conquerors should be abandoned immediately.

Turkey should be constantly denounced for its continuous crime and it should constantly find Greece and Cyprus opposite it on a political, diplomatic, economic (through the EU), energy and defense level.

The occupying troops are never going to leave Northern Cyprus which has become a base for projecting Turkish power and claiming Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Contrary to the policy of pursuing any solution for fifty years, there is an immediate danger that the free Cyprus will come under the geopolitical control of Ankara.

“Even if there was not a single Muslim Turk in Cyprus, Turkey should have maintained a Cypriot issue. No country can remain indifferent to such an island that is in the heart of its living space.” Ahmet Davutoglu-“Strategic Depth”.

Turkophobic, Turkophobic and Turkophile politicians are not fighting for the liberation of occupied Cyprus, but for the delivery of free Cyprus to Turkey, in the name of the reunification of our homeland. So much introspection, so much ignorance of danger, so much geopolitical naivety.

PS The continuation of the negotiations with informal five-party meetings (three guarantor powers, Greece, Turkey, Great Britain and the two Communities) is expected. Again the Republic of Cyprus is downgraded to a Greek Community.
