Because this type of “vampire” doesn’t have sharp fangs or fear the light, it can be hard to see… But you can easily feel it: If you have a friend, colleague or relative who makes you feel exhausted after every interaction with him, then this person is probably an “energy vampire”.
How do you recognize an “energy vampire”?
The next time you’re dealing with someone you suspect doesn’t have pure intentions, you might notice the following signs:
– It “sucks” your energy and “steals” your smile.
– He constantly demands your attention and time.
– You have the same conversations over and over again, getting nowhere.
– Only concerned about his/her own problems and not interested in yours.
– He complains about things he doesn’t try to change.
– It transmits you negative energy and stresses you out.
– Needs constant reassurance and support.
– He “plays” the victim.
– Creates drama and tension.
– He wants to be the center of attention.
– He criticizes you and lowers your self-confidence.
– Uses emotional manipulation techniques to get what they want (eg guilt, pity, flattery).
– Blames others and refuses to take responsibility for his own mistakes.
Protect your energy
Your energy is a valuable resource in your life, and it is irreplaceable for both your mental and physical well-being.
One of the most important ways to protect your energy is to “clean” your environment of things and people that “drain” your batteries.
Make sure to spend more time with people who lift your mood and “invest” in the relationship with the most important person in your life: yourself!
Important reminder: No one can be or become a friend by force, and there’s no reason for you to be consumed with negative emotions, filling your life with frustration. It is of primary importance that you respect and love yourself, in order to give him relationships with reciprocity. Create space in your life for friendships and activities that make you happy.
