The American national security adviser, John Kirby, responded to the criticism that the American government receives because it does not give permission to Ukraine to hit targets in the interior of Russia with American missiles, mainly ATACMS.
According to Kiev, these strikes, mainly against Russian air bases, would result in the limitation of Russian aerial bombardments against Ukrainian targets. However, John Kirby stated that ATACMS are ineffective for such use and explained that the reason is simple. And this reason is none other than the distance.
As he said, Russian aircraft are stationed deep in the Russian hinterland, beyond the ATACMS maximum range of 300 kilometers. “We calculated it. 90% of Russian air bases are more than 300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
So the argument that if we give Ukraine ATACMS and tell them to hit Russian targets inland is not valid, it is not true.” It should be noted that while some Western countries allow Ukraine to use the weapons they send to it as it wishes, the US insists on its decision not to allow Kiev to use American weapons to hit targets inside Russian territory
