The Americano is considered the ancestor of the Negroni and James Bond’s drink of choice in Casino Royale in 1953. Bitter Campari and sweet vermouth in equal measure create a refreshing cocktail with a bitter kick that is beautifully balanced by the sparkling water.
Right ingredients, maximum enjoyment
Like any cocktail made with three ingredients, here too each of them needs to be of high quality for a good result. Campari is considered the best-known liqueur in the category of red bitters, with a unique taste and vibrant color. If you decide to use another similar bitter aperitif, make sure it is not of lower quality than Campari. For the rest of the ingredients, you can choose your favorite sweet vermouth and a carbonated water or soda with enough intensity to reduce the bitter taste of Campari, making the drink refreshing and refreshing, an ideal choice for hot summer evenings – and not only.
Here is the recipe:
Americano
Materials
45ml Campari
45ml sweet vermouth
soda
1 orange peel, thinly sliced (for garnish)
Procedure
Fill a tall glass with ice and then add Campari and sweet vermouth. Stir until combined and let the mixture rest for about 20 seconds. Fill the glass with soda and mix once more. Garnish with the orange peel.
Tips
– Proportions: Typically the proportions of Campari and vermouth are equal. However, there is always room for experimentation. Therefore, you can adjust the proportions according to your taste preferences. In the same way you can test the amount of carbonated water you prefer.
– Ice: Make sure the ice is fresh. Mix the ingredients with him, let them “calm” for a while and then serve.
– Garnish: You can alternatively garnish with lemon peel. Both orange and lemon bring out the citrus notes of Campari deliciously.
