The clothes that flatter you according to your body type – Stylistic Tips

Whether you’re quite short, tall, stocky or very thin, there’s really no problem at all – as long as you choose the right outfit that will highlight your good features and ‘camouflage’ the ones you don’t like so much.

As you will have heard many times, dressing can bring into harmony features of your body and stature that you may not find flattering simply by making some minor clothing changes.

If, for example, a man of average height habitually wears baggy clothes, then he automatically deducts points from his height. Conversely, a very tall person will look even taller in a pair of pants with vertical stripes.

We have some stylistic tips that will be useful for you to dress correctly according to your height.

Tips to look taller

  • Prefer slim instead of wide lines that better define the body and make it look longer.
  • Tailor your clothes with the necessary repairs, mainly on jackets, coats and trousers.
  • Wear vertical stripes – not horizontal – that elongate the torso and legs.
  • Avoid wearing a belt when tucking the shirt through the pants as you are cutting the body in half.
  • Don’t buy pants with a low crotch, because they shorten the legs.
  • When wearing leather boots – from hiking boots to Chelsea boots and chukka boots – always make sure to turn up the pant legs. They should not cover the shoe, but end exactly where it begins.
  • Monochrome outfits are more flattering for your height. The same color above and below makes the body look straighter.
  • Especially in winter, the fewer and thinner clothes you wear, the better. Layering, dressing like an onion, is a trend that you should avoid because it adds points in width and subtracts in length.

Tips to not look so big(here you do the exact opposite of the above)

  • Prefer comfortable, loose lines and avoid skinny pants.
  • Don’t wear vertical stripes. You will look even taller. Horizontal ones are a better choice.
  • Wear a belt when tucking the shirt through the pants to cut the body in half.
  • Low-rise pants flatter you because your legs are already long.
  • Likewise those that have a classic line. In general, make sure to avoid the cropped finish on the legs that leaves the ankles bare. The shorter the pants, the taller you will look.
  • You may like monochromatic outfits, but those that go the two-tone route – white T-shirt with black pants – are clearly more suitable for your height.
