As a man, as important as it is to have a quality suit in your wardrobe, it is equally important to choose it according to the right criteria, tailored to you. Simply put, James Bond’s iconic suit can make you look like a “crooked donut” and yours can make you look like James Bond – well, almost.
All kidding aside though, the suit is the go-to garment for the man on many occasions. From your wedding to an important professional appointment, the so-called “power suit” will accompany you in milestone moments and that is why it is “of the utmost importance” to invest in a really good suit.
Fortunately, the criteria to achieve this are few, but essential. Pay proper attention and don’t “throw away” your money on something that isn’t worth it or doesn’t suit you.
1. The number of buttons plays a bigger role than you thought
It all depends on your body type and height. The classic choice for a jacket is two buttons, however if you are slimmer, jackets with a narrow lapel and a single button may be more suitable for you. On the other hand, if you are very tall, with a long torso, you should prefer three buttons, to better frame your body.
2. The right color
Although we would very much like to wear whatever color suit comes to mind, depending on our mood, the truth is that each occasion goes hand in hand with a different color palette. However, to be absolutely safe, it’s a good idea to have a black, a blue and a gray in your wardrobe so that you are covered for the majority of occasions.
3. Pay attention to the fabric
You will find most suits in wool fabric and indeed a suit made of this material is a must have in your wardrobe. On the other hand, for the summer and warmer months, it is good to keep in mind that a cotton or linen suit is more suitable so that your skin can breathe better.
4. More expensive does not necessarily mean better
It is a fact that quality and price are correlated to a certain extent. This does not mean that you should “run” uncritically to the most expensive suit you will find that can satisfy your budget. More important is that it suits you, your style and your body, while you should not forget after such a purchase, to take your suit for processing in order to adapt it perfectly to your needs.
