Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, the EU’s smallest geographic country-member, announced at the end of November that he will remain Prime Minister until 12 January 2020, when the Maltese Labour Party institutions will be converging to elect their new leader. The reason for this decision was the conclusion of the investigation into the murder of researcher-journalist Daphne Anne Caruana Calizia (2017) in Malta, which is a finding involving his very narrow associates.

Joseph Muscat
Joseph Muscat began his career as a journalist, an EU supporter, an elected Parliament member since his 30 years of age, having taken over the Labour Party’s authority after its defeating in the 2018 elections. In the 2009 European elections he led his party to victory and in 2013 took over the Prime Ministry of the Republic of Malta.

In 2017, and having four years in the Prime Minister’s post, he achieved a 55% stake in the early elections he had been forced to call when his wife had been charged with illegal financial actions.
During his Prime Ministry, he succeeded in achieving significant economic achievements for the Maltese economy, reducing the deficit of the state budget, reducing unemployment to the historic low rate of 4% per annum, while the development of Maltese economy has reached a growth rate of 6%, giving him the opportunity to raise wages and pensions.
The beginning of the end and the dishonorable self-launching
On October 19, 2017, the rented car used by the researcher-journalist and blogger Daphne Anne Caruana Calizia aged 53 years blown up.
Her action was substantial and overwhelming for the illegal economic and criminal circuits that cooperated in a smooth way with the government and political corruption of Malta. This fact is evidenced by the fact that this researcher-journalist had already had 48 lawsuits for what was brought to light in her personal web-blog that had the name Running Commentary.
Government corruption, money laundering, organised crime and actions, etc., have been targeted at her research.
In 2016 and 2017 respectively, Daphne Anne Caruana Calizia revealed very sensitive information and publicly accused Maltese politicians whose names connected with the well-known Panama Papers. These names included the closest associates of the Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and his own wife for illegal activities. Daphne Anne Caruana Calizia was found fighting alone against the monster of Malta’s corruption and financial crime.

The mobilization after the assassination
The global thrill and mobilization following the assassination of Daphne Anne Caruana Calizia (2017) caused the acceleration to unify forces by dozens of volunteer journalists who, in memory of the unfortunate murdered journalist, made the Daphne Project team. Daphne Project (2018) was what revealed that a company called 17 Black mentioned in Panama Papers belonged to one of the richest people in Malta.
In November 2019, the tangle of the stench of political and economic crime in Malta began to unfold slowly. It was proved by the interrogations and the basis of the findings that the perpetrator and mastermind behind the murder of the journalist was the closest associate of the Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and director of the Malta’s Prime Minister’s office.
The Maltese judiciary instead of imprisoning the Prime Minister’s specific associate, let him free, causing the wrath of the Maltese people.

Despite the Ministers council support for the opposition accusations of the Prime Minister’s intervention in the investigation to protect his partner, Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat officially announced that he will remain Prime Minister as of 12 January 2020.
With this Prime Minister’s announcement closes a huge circle in the political life of Malta, whose political circle will be purged by the exemplary punishments of the moral and natural perpetrators in the Maltese criminal courts for the murder of journalist Daphne Anne Caruana Calizia.
The support and protection framework for researchers-journalists
In order to avoid in the future to repeat the killings of researchers-journalists who, in their revelations, defend the functioning of the democratic regime and governance equally by protecting them against corruption and organised crime all the countries of the West and not only them they must establish a specific financial package which will be managed by an independent authority to which prosecutors are involved.
They are the citizens-taxpayers themselves in a well-known state favoured by these revelations, and they should know every time what is happening in their society, which is why they should indirectly be the ones who are bearing this funding through the state budget.
For example, in the EU, there should only be one independent authority without its branches in each member-country. Researchers-journalists will be able to receive direct funding from this independent authority at their request and in a specific cryptographic manner in order to fully protect their personal data and not be able to be known to anyone.
Prosecutors participating in this independent authority will be obliged to ensure the protection of the personal data of these investigative journalists, while providing them with the necessary protection for their lives and as long holds the completion of their investigation process.
The funding that researchers-journalists will receive from this independent authority will be used for their investigations and subsistence costs and for as long as their investigation lasts.
Such a policy will enable small and independent groups of researchers-journalists such as the Daphne Project-to be shown that their vocation will be to expose illegal acts of political and economic power respectively as well as organised crime.
Then, these independent teams of researchers-journalists will be able to choose to collaborate with any newspaper for the publication of their revelations and given that they will have first passed a bill obliging the minimum one big newspaper to be obliged to publish their revelations in the extreme case that no newspaper wants for its own reasons to make the publication of their surveys.
The establishment of the Daphne Anne Caruana Calizia Award awarded to every researcher-journalist for his work will be a moral reward for the work of this journalist and for all those researchers-journalists who fight every day with the beasts of the scourge of modern societies, protecting the smooth functioning of democracy.
But the real reward for the sacrifice of the murdered journalist will be the exemplary punishment of the moral and natural perpetrators and the protection of all journalists-researchers in the world. These are the modern “Templars” of democracy when they do their vocation properly, because they protect the citizens from the arbitrariness and corruption of the power of authority.
