One of the sad privileges that modern technology provides us is that we become, in real time, eyewitnesses and witnesses of atrocities, which, alas, are not new, in the historical path.
The breakdown of rules and control and sovereign violence against civilians and prisoners, is the appropriate context for all kinds of complex and perverted to manifest. Humanity is witnessing this extreme perversion, after what the terrorists who invaded 22 Israeli settlements and cities last Saturday caused and left behind.
Beyond the gratification of personal outcasts, the atrocities they committed, with the slaughter of infants, the rape of women, the burning of people, the executions in cold blood, the taking as prey, the taking of hostages and the absolute contempt for the human agent, regardless of his involvement in the crisis of the Middle East, are dictated by specific goals.
While the terror tactics, which were mostly applied in the 1970s, in the Western world, by networks basically financed and orchestrated by the Soviet agencies and their satellites, aimed to paralyze the Western societies, using as means of activity and immunity of the terrorists, the very institutions of free Western states, the terrorism that took place last Saturday appears to have additional patterns and targets.
The terrorists recorded and broadcast their brutal acts and in any case left evidence of them, which could easily and immediately become known through the information networks. They wanted to demonstrate that they have the power to humiliate and humiliate the opponent and the West as a whole. The pattern was highlighted and cultivated by ISIS as a methodology of pummeling, terror and recruitment. Apparently he found his descendants.
The terrorists targeted and massacred soldiers and civilians indiscriminately. They wanted to send the message that for them, that they represent and those who support them, there is no bridge of communication with the opponent. The terrorists became the butchers of those who participated in a festival of peace and celebration, with music and dance.
They wanted to demonstrate that no peace can exist with them and that they treat with the same hatred and contempt those who otherwise support the need for understanding with them. Moreover, the choice of the festival was not just by chance. They knew its time and place, just as the killers at the Bataclan in Paris in November 2016 did.
The terrorists also showed their hatred and aversion to everything synonymous with music, fun, joy and life. Of course, the executioners of the Islamic State had overtaken them.
The terrorists set fire to people, infrastructure and homes. They wanted to confirm in the most emphatic way, that they do not recognize the right of Israel and its people to exist. They don’t leave much room for negotiation. The terrorists with their brutal acts wanted to create self-sustaining cores of radicalization.
The venture is not new. It is not distinguished by its massive effectiveness. The terrorists aim to provoke the conflict without tomorrow, between those who legitimately want to respond and those who will feel they will have no choice but to band together to face the severity of the response.
States, however, have memory, experience and an instinct for self-preservation. It is highly doubtful that they will be a byproduct of the terrorists’ morbid targeting and choices.
