A small-scale tornado, which raises sand or dust in meteorological international terminology is called a “dust devil”. Such dust devils are also created on Mars and have been recorded by the fleet of satellites orbiting the Red Planet. NASA’s Perseverance rover on Mars captured a dust devil on August 30, and NASA has decided to release the visuals now.
NASA experts estimated that the tornado was located about four kilometers from Perseverance and was moving at a speed of 19 kilometers per hour while having a diameter of 60 meters and a height of two kilometers.
Dust devils are considered by experts to be an important part of the Martian dust cycle, the mechanism that transports, lifts and generally moves the planet’s dust.
