Political Violence in the US has become a Mainstream Trend

Just how close the US – perhaps the world – came to ruin with Donald Trump in the White House became clear today when the new indictment against him was unsealed for illegal possession of top-secret global security information.

In the bathroom, closets and bedroom of the former US president, Melania, Byron and members of the support staff at his Mar-a-Lago mansion in Palm Beach, Florida could find and read information about US nuclear weapons , about the… sensitive points of their allies, but also about the plans to deal with attacks from their opponents.

Trump will appear in court again on Tuesday. The important question is neither whether he will eventually end up in prison, nor of course whether he will succeed in winning the anointing of the Republican party.

What should be troubling is whether this legal adventure of his has any chance of increasing his popularity ratings, as did the previous one over the money he illegally gave to porn star Stormy Daniels to keep their love affairs from going public.

Mainstream political violence

For the time being, it is said that because the pink scandal was not taken seriously by anyone, it boosted Trump’s ego, while this last story that could easily go down in flames in the USA will cost him in the long run.

But 12 million Americans (4.4%) out of a total of 331.9 million consider violence to restore Trump’s power to be justified, causing alarm on both sides of the Atlantic.

The theory of the Great Replacement

Of particular concern is that another recent survey found that 142 million Americans believe the election will not solve the country’s fundamental problems, up from 11 million last year.

An additional 1 in 5 Americans believe the election was stolen by Trump, the same number who were certain of this in 2021, while 10% believe the government is run by satanic pedophiles and 25% believe in the Great Replacement theory that it is about an organized plan to exterminate the white population.

The levels of distrust in American democracy, the support for dangerous conspiracy theories, as well the support for political violence itself are truly alarming.
