Canada’s tight pre-election period

Mr. Trudeau took over the office of the Prime Minister of Canada in 2015. Unlike other Anglo-Saxon countries such as the US and the UK, Canada has avoided electing a right-populist politician as its Prime Minister and since the Liberal Prime Minister of Canada does not belong to the club of Rightist-populist political leaders.

During his tenure, Mr. Trudeau succeeded in effectively promoting international issues such as migration, globalisation and feminism. It is universally accepted that the Prime Minister of Canada was the only one who argued to absorb high levels of migratory flows in his country (e.g. 321000 people received a permanent residence permit in 2018 while the target for 2021 is to reach 350000 people).

On the internal political agenda, Mr Trudeau implemented policies such as the taxation of the wealth citizens, approved the provision of allowances for children and maternity benefits, imposed carbon dioxide taxes on areas that were not until then applied and legalised marijuana use.

In addition, during its Prime Minister term the economic achievements of its Government are noteworthy as annual inflation rate between (2015-2018) moved on average below 2% while the same is expected for 2019.

Both the average annual salary and the actual minimum wage increased by twice the rate of inflation (Data: In 2018 constant Prices at 2018 USD PPPs-Source of Data: OECD). While the rate of annual unemployment moves to 5.7% August 2019, the lowest rate in the last forty years has been presented to the economy of Canada.

On the other hand, Mr. Trudeau refused during his tenure to revise the Canadian electoral system in 2017, with which his party’s electoral system won the 2015 elections, while before the elections he had promised to do so.

In February 2019, the management by Mr. Trudeau of the scandal concerning the criticisms of the Advocate General complained that she was under pressure from the Prime Minister’s office with aim not to promote the investigation of bribery of Libyan officials from Canada’s largest manufacturing company managed to salvage its government and overcome this difficult reef.

The Conservatives who are and the main rival of Mr. Trudeau’s Liberals have so far been presenting a remarkable campaign that brings them to the breast difference with the Liberals making the result of the elections of the21st of October very tight.

The leader of the conservative pre-election campaign Mr. Andrew Scheer, former speaker of the House of Commons, uses as his main political argument the rising cost of living in Canada.

Through this argument he promises to reduce taxes on weaker in economic terms citizens, to increase tax credits for young parents and for children’s sporting activities but also to implement even looser rules for obtaining mortgages so that young citizens can more easily acquire their own home.

The weaknesses of the conservative electoral struggle are summarized in the restriction and possible prohibition of abortion and the total prohibition of marriages between the same sexes.

While on the far-right side is shown the end-right party of People’s Party Canada, which is against cultural diversity and wants to ban migratory flows. This party is very likely to get significant percentages from the conservative party rates.

Mr. Trudeau, in order to win these difficult and ambivalent national elections, should approach the Green Party with a convincing workable progressive agenda and also the Left-wing party of the New  Democratic Party whose both percentages are low but noteworthy to support a future government of co-operation led by the Liberals of Mr. Trudeau.

Such a progressive and environmental agenda should include policies such as implementing equivalent value measures, e.g. brave tax exemptions over a long horizon, providing loans with low lending rates or zero lending rates where this possibility exists, with a view to the hydrocarbon mining companies having the incentive to invest in the production of clean energy and always in such a way that it becomes unchanged in the company’s income portfolio the amount of net revenue generated from the production and trading of clean energy and always in relation to the amount of net revenue flowing from an existing particular unit or oil extraction units for the purpose of cessation of operations e.g. oil rig, replacing it with equivalent value of net revenue flowing from a clean energy plant or units.

At the same time, Mr. Trudeau should also approach the new voters who supported liberals in the 2015 elections as well as the Coloured citizens of Canada who may have been disappointed (wrongly in our opinion because creating an expression in people cannot be shadowed by strict political correctness, please read the article «The hypocrisy of the Political Opponents of Justin Trudeau») when the political opponents  of Mr. Trudeau used  a  particular  photograph  that  Mr. Trudeau took at a costume party about twenty years ago with intention to affect him and as they could not affect  the  achievements of his governmental mandate.

These Canadian elections are ambiguous as to their outcome and which are more akin to a vote of confidence or not of the Canadian people to Mr. Trudeau.
