The director and visual artist, who perhaps specializes in the depiction of brilliance and extravagance, undertakes to tell the story of the most brilliant star that the entertainment industry has ever known. He does so through the eyes of Presley’s famous manager, Colonel Tom Parker (played by Tom Hanks), who played a key role throughout the career – and personal life – of the “King” of rock & roll.

The narrative of the film begins with Parker, a man in the circus, who is looking for his next successful number and falls on Elvis: a handsome young singer who has a habit of rocking uncontrollably on stage causing …. panic between to the female audience. Soon, the “Colonel” takes over his representation, with Elvis’s popularity soaring and representatives of Puritan America gnashing their teeth.

As the years go by, new rock stars come to the surface, Elvis sings …… at Christmas and personal losses weigh on him more and more. The director dives into the ocean of great personality with bravery and some decisive allies to support him: first his almost unknown protagonist, Austin Butler, who gives everything to dance and song interpretation in order to fill the shoes of a legend. For his part, Tom Hanks moves to the well-known high standards, presenting a truly enigmatic and interesting character.

Finally, the visual part of the film is, as expected, even, contributing to some very impressive scenes.

Beyond that, all the chaos involved in a biography of Elvis Presley may lead the filmmaker, along with the other three screenwriters, into a barrage of information that ultimately confuses and tires the viewer, especially given the nearly three-hour run. duration. And if any of these elements, such as those explaining Elvis’ relationship with the “black” blues scene in Memphis, are really enjoyable, they could easily be missing from the final editing.

SPIDERHEAD

2022-Sci-Fi/Thriller – 1h 47m, 2,5-in scale: 1-5,

Director: Joseph Kosinski, Interpretations: Miles Teller, Chris Hemsworth, Jurnee Smollett, Tess Haubrich, BeBe Bettencourt, Ashley Lawrence.

“Top Gun: Maverick” director Joseph Kozinski is orchestrating a Netflix-inspired “Black Mirror” TV thriller starring stars. Chris Hemsworth plays a genius pharmacologist who is free to experiment with substances in the food of a very special prison. One of them is Jeff (Miles Teller), who is given a drug that is supposed to produce feelings of true love, but soon discovers that something (still) is not going well with the activities of the enigmatic doctor.

Kozinski’s film has an atmosphere, a welcome humor – albeit a perverted one – but also interesting references to the control system that objectively imposes on modern material culture. Even the indirect allusion to the now powerful pharmaceutical companies and their influence can only be considered successful. In addition, the presence of Chris Hemsworth in the role of “evil”, introduces us to another dimension of the Australian star, without this of course meaning that ….. he is already stuck in the role. From there on, the film betrays, especially from the middle onwards, its limited horizon, since its socio-anthropological observation does not go into great depth, while the script facilities are not few.

ELVIS 2022-Musical/Drama – 2h 39m, 3-in scale: 1-5, Director: Buz Luhrmann, Interpretations: Austin Butler, Tom Hanks, Olivia DeJonge, Dacre Montgomery, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kodi Smit…

[1157,3511
3513,3512,3564,3563
post-8857","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-culture","category-spectacles","tag-cinema","tag-glances-at-the-spectacles-world","tag-home-cinema","tag-spectacles
["GET
