Russia has attacked Ukraine in various ways and in many directions at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. <\/strong>\u03a4here have been numerous rocket attacks on military targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ukraine speaks of 30 Caliber shots, Russia says it destroyed 87 Ukrainian military bases, airports, warehouses and command centers. The Russian Federation also claims to have eliminated the Ukrainian air defense. Like it or not, today all of Ukraine has heard and seen arrivals at military and mixed infrastructure – from Kharkiv and Odessa to Lutsk and Ivano-Frankivsk. That is, the attack with high-precision weapons was really massive. And it was probably the basic plan for today. Ukraine’s losses from this action are still unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n 2.<\/strong> \u03a4he Russian air force began operations in the afternoon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Attack helicopters fired at border crossings in the south of the country and stormed Gostomel Airport, near Kiev, which is capable of receiving military transport aircraft. A Russian landing force landed there, which, apparently, was established there. And this is extremely dangerous for Kiev. If the Russians hold the airport, Russian aid workers may start arriving in Gostomel (reports that 18 Ils trucks with Pskov paratroopers are flying to Ukraine have already been reported by the media). That is, it can increase the ground grouping of the Russian Federation 25 kilometers from Kiev.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At the moment, a battle is underway that is heard from the entire local settlement – Bucha, Irpin, Petropavlovskaya Borshchagovka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. <\/strong>Land operations began. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Armored vehicles crossed the border from all directions – north (Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Kiev, Sumy regions), east (Kharkov, Lugansk regions) and south (Crimea).<\/p>\n\n\n How are land operations doing?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Mostly the Russians advanced south. That is where the attack on Kherson took place. The Russian Federation arrived near this city, taking on the route Novaya Kakhovka and the facilities of the Northern Crimea canal. In Crimea, after that, they began to prepare for the launch of water through this canal. Thus, the water blockade of the peninsula is practically over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the way to Melitopolis, the invading troops occupied Genitsk. By nightfall, there were reports that the Russians were already in Melitopolis. From where the road opens to Berdyansk with a large base of the Navy of Ukraine (and further the path to Mariupol is open), and to Zaporozhye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Russian equipment has already been observed near Berdyansk, as well as near Energodar (not far from Zaporozhye).<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the north, Russian troops advanced further into the Sumy region: there were videos of Russian equipment in the city center all day from there. There is no conclusive evidence that Sumy has been fully captured (there is information that in some parts of the region they were forced to retreat). It is also known that the Russians control the zone of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To the east, the Russian Federation occupied several settlements in the border areas of the Luhansk region. There were battles near Kharkov, many Russian tanks were hit, but did not enter the city itself (according to some reports, fighting in the area near Kharkov continues). In the Chernihiv and Zhytomyr regions, no deep progress was made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And, as we see, not a single large city has yet been occupied by the Russians. However, it is not clear whether such efforts were made seriously. There are several versions of this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 1. <\/strong>The current ground operation is “reconnaissance in force”, and the main program of the day was the destruction of Ukrainian military installations from the air, as well as the occupation of the main highways. That is, more significant forces are likely to be introduced further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2.<\/strong> At the same time, it is not clear whether the Russian Federation will even want to invade major cities at this stage, which is associated with heavy losses. In the United States, for example, officials write that Russia’s goal is to encircle the big cities and force them to surrender, not to defeat them head-on.<\/p>\n\n\n At the very least, we can say that there have been no serious and prepared attempts to invade major cities today. They tried to “take it with one blow”, but when resistance was put up, the attacks stopped or became subdued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Analyzing the military movements of the Russians, one should also keep in mind the Donbass. There is another story unfolding. The “democracies”, with the fire support of the Russian Federation, launched the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In Russia they say that the “DNR” and the “LNR” have advanced by 6-8 kilometers. Ukraine, on the other hand, says that all attacks are repulsed and the key cities attacked by the enemy – Happiness, Stanytsia Luhanska, Volnovakha and Mariupol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But according to various reports, a threat actually prevailed in the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Volnovakha. And if the city can be occupied, then the road to Mariupol from the north will be open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And if by that time the Russian army is stationed in the Zaporozhye region, then the entire southern group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donetsk region (from Volnovakha to Mariupol) will be under the threat of complete siege.<\/p>\n\n\n What is the Ukrainian government doing?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Ukraine has already enacted martial law as part of its defense measures. A traffic ban was also imposed in Kiev. The main leadership of the country remained in place. Zelensky called on everyone to participate in the territorial defense and promised those who join the lifting of NSDC sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Ministry of Defense also stated that anyone who comes with a passport to register in the defense will immediately receive a weapon. There is also a draft decree for general mobilization in Rada, but it has not started yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Commenting on the situation on the front, the General Staff says that “the Russian blitzkrieg has failed”, and now the enemy has made an operational pause to regroup its forces. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are monitoring the situation, military authorities say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, in the West, in this respect, they are more pessimistic: many American media immediately wrote, citing officials, that the Russians would take Kiev in 72-96 hours – that is, in four days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What is happening now is called the first phase of the invasion. Once the air and artillery work is over, a real land war will start and I think Kiev will fall in just a few days.<\/p>\n\n\n Sanctions against Russia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n By the evening of February 24, the United States and Britain had announced tough measures against Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Americans:<\/p>\n\n\n\n The sanctions include Sberbank (Russia’s largest bank), Gazprombank, VTB, Russia’s second-largest bank and Otkritie Bank. They will also affect the bonds of the largest Russian state-owned companies. British:<\/p>\n\n\n\n United Aircraft Corporation, Rostec, United Shipbuilding Corporation, Uralvagonzavod and Tactical Missiles Corporation. At the same time, there is neither disconnection from SWIFT, nor an embargo on oil and gas. And that would be the most painful thing for Russia. The rest of the sanctions are not so critical for her (although they are very sensitive). That is, Putin obviously understood that this was exactly what was going to happen. As a result, however, he decided on a full-scale war with Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n Upcoming developments<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The next day or two will be crucial for the whole course of the war. Will the Ukrainian troops be able to stop the Russian invasion, inflict heavy casualties and go to war (which will allow at least partial mobilization and reinforcement of forces, provided funding and arms supplies from the West), or can the Russian army to completely destroy the defense, encircle the largest cities and turn the case around according to the script written by American experts for the fall of Kiev in 72-96 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another important question is whether the Ukrainian leadership will take initiatives on the ceasefire and reach certain agreements with Russia. Zelensky has already been urged to do so by the co-chair of the Opposition Platform for Life, Yuri Boyko, a group of lawmakers led by Novinski.
