On steam ripping sites, one can copy music or video from a streaming platform and convert it to a file.

According to MUSO (MUSO is a technology company providing anti-piracy, market analytics and audience connection solutions that disrupt the piracy market for digital content), movie piracy during lockdowns for the Covid-19 pandemic has increased. Specifically, it increased by 41% in the US in the last week of March 2020, compared to the same period last month. In terms of data specifically for music piracy while the numbers should not be a cause for concern they showed some interesting trends. Before we get to the numbers it is worth noting that flow piracy has been one of the fastest growing forms of entertainment piracy in recent years. The first trend observed in music piracy behavior during lockdowns is that illegal streaming activity decreased significantly worldwide in the last week of March compared to the same period in February. It fell 11.84% in Europe, 19.72% in Japan and 5.84% in the United Kingdom. In the US it fell only 1.01%.

However something remarkable has happened in the world of piracy during the lockdowns according to the data of the specific company MUSO. Music-related visits to torrenting platforms have increased.

In the US alone, music-related visits to torrent sites increased by 15.62% between the last week of February 2020 and the last week of March. In India, music-related visits to public torrent sites increased by 23.43%. In the United Kingdom they increased by 18.3%, in Canada by 17.54%, across the EU by 7.61%, while in Spain they increased by 26.4%.

Two years later, Music Business Worldwide, a website that deals with the financial recording of music, comes to confirm in its research that although music piracy has plummeted in the last five years, by 2021 the data show that it has begun to grow and again. While there is no doubt that streaming has transformed the fortunes of major record labels and that subscriptions to music streaming platforms are growing (reportedly up 26.4%, 523.9 million subscribers worldwide at the end of the second quarter of 2021) piracy is still present from 2021 onwards.

According to new MUSO data from the Discovery analytics platform, music piracy has been steadily declining from year to year from January 2017 to the second half of 2020, but began to increase gradually in 2021. Specifically, there was an increase of 2.18 % in 2021 compared to 2020 and an increase of 18.6% in the fourth quarter of 2009 compared to the fourth quarter of 2020. According to MUSO, the number one online destination for music piracy is the so-called steam ripping sites. This happens when a person copies music or video from a streaming platform before converting it to a file that can be downloaded by any offline user. Streaming sites that allow users to copy and download audio from YouTube accounted for 39.2% of global music piracy, up from 33.9% in 2020. Just last month, for example, a U.S. judge recommended that operators two streaming sites pay more than $80 million in damages for circumventing YouTube anti-piracy and copyright infringement recordings.

It should be noted that unlicensed streaming sites accounted for 31.5% of all music piracy visits in 2021. While illegal downloads accounted for 24.3%. Examination of MUSO data worldwide shows India to be the most popular country for piracy, Iran to be the second most popular market for music piracy, followed by the USA which is in the third place where 60% of the total activity is held by ripping stream. The data comes from tracking 182 million hits on pirate sites for movies, TV, music, software and publishing.

Although music piracy has dropped significantly in the last five years, from 2021 it started to grow again, with the number one pirate’s internet…

[1168,2960
3337,3336
post-7720","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-science-technology","category-technology","tag-music-piracy","tag-steam-ripping
["GET
