Dozens of high-tech showcase companies have sprung up across Israel to serve China’s latest campaign to acquire advanced military know-how from Israel’s defense industries. The United States recently handed over a list of these companies to the Israeli Internal Security Service, which is responsible for blocking the infiltration of foreign forces into Israel’s top-secret defense technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
China seems to have gained access to these critical technologies long ago. China’s latest ploy to bypass Sabak was to partner with Israeli high-tech companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following this strategy, all local defense companies in Israel have been instructed in recent weeks to notify the Department of Defense Security Department of any investment or cooperation offers coming from foreign areas. These bids could then be scrutinized to identify and terminate links with Chinese companies linked to spy centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On December 21, ten Israeli drone experts and three companies were accused of plotting to sell unarmed drones to China. Their trial is set to begin next month. According to the indictments, this group is accused of “building cruise missiles and actions capable of threatening human life”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Its leader is Ephraim Menas, director of the Solar Sky group that hired the services of Innocon, an Israeli UAV manufacturer that collects information. Dozens of these drones have already been sent to the Chinese army. Some of the accused have chosen to remain silent about the case, but claim that when they speak, they will reveal a different picture, moving away from the accusations leveled at them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The United States has repeatedly intervened when Israeli arms and information technology shipments to China were at stake. In 2000, Washington prevented the sale of the advanced Phalcon early warning aircraft to China. In 2004, Israel signed a contract to upgrade its explosive Harpy drones sold in China in 1994 and was unable to return them. The United States has said the upgraded UAV Harpy would pose a threat to Taiwan and to US forces in the Far East. Eventually shipped to China without the upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In early 2021, Israel rejected a strong American protest against a contract signed for a Chinese company to build a new port in Haifa, to which a multi-year management clause is attached. The United States said at the time that a Chinese presence in Haifa would make it impossible for US warships to dock there.
