This autumn the St\u00e4del Museum <\/strong>is celebrating the work of the greatest of Dutch artists of the 17th century: Rembrandt van Rijn. The exhibition \u201cRembrandt in Amsterdam: Creativity and Competition\u201d is the first to trace Rembrandt\u2019s rise from a young, ambitious artist from Leiden to a famed master in Amsterdam. The story is told through 60 of Rembrandt\u2019s artworks placed in direct dialogue with paintings by other artists of his time. The exhibition combines the important Frankfurt holdings of Rembrandt\u2019s work, including The Blinding of Samson<\/em> (1636), with a string of stellar loans from major museums in Europe and North America. Around 140 paintings, prints, and drawings by Rembrandt and his contemporaries \u2013 loaned from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Gem\u00e4ldegalerie Berlin, the Gem\u00e4ldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden, the National Gallery in London, the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington \u2013 reveal the artist\u2019s impressive rise, breakthrough, and market domination in the 1630s to the mid-1650s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exhibition: Visit the Courtauld Gallery Permanent Collection<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Courtauld\u2019s much-loved permanent collection ranges from the Middle Ages to the 20th century and has been completely redisplayed and reinterpreted. These enhanced spaces have allowed The Courtauld to give visitors greater insight into this world-leading collection than ever before. Masterpieces such as Manet\u2019s A Bar at the Folies-Berg\u00e8re<\/em>, Van Gogh\u2019s Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear<\/em> and the most significant collection of works by C\u00e9zanne in the UK are presented in The Courtauld Gallery\u2019s <\/strong>spectacular LVMH Great Room, one of the largest spaces in Somerset House, alongside works by artists including Gauguin, Renoir, and Monet. The new displays will reveal the quality and range of the collection like never before. The Blavatnik Fine Rooms, spanning the Piano Nobile across the whole of the second floor, provide the stunning setting for a series of new displays of works from the Renaissance to the 18th century. Highlights include Adam and Eve<\/em> by Lucas Cranach the Elder, The Family of Jan Bruegel the Elder<\/em> and The Descent From The Cross<\/em> by Peter Paul Rubens, The Trinity with Saints<\/em> altarpiece by Sandro Botticelli and Landscape with a flight into Egypt<\/em> by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. An entirely new space is dedicated to The Courtauld\u2019s important collection of Medieval and Early Renaissance paintings and decorative arts. Rooms devoted to 20th century art and the Bloomsbury Group will also showcase lesser-known areas of the collection through rotating displays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
