In recent years, authoritarian leaders in authoritarian regimes have been able to dramatically increase their influence in both the affairs and public opinion of other liberal democracies, far more effectively than the leaders of these democratic liberal states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This fact is an element of the application of “sharp power” (a means of projecting one’s influence on a global scale in the same way that a soft and hard power of one state is applied to other states).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The effectiveness of sharp power is to penetrate and distort the information environments of the target countries, in order to expose any authoritarianism of the democracies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Examples of Sharp Power<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 According to a report by the Global Engagement Center, during the Covid-19 pandemic, three authoritarian states, China, Russia, and Iran, aimed to convince the international community that their state mechanisms handled the pandemic more correctly and more effectively than the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But then it turned out that China hid information to show its success against the Covid-19 virus. Another myth was the construction of a hospital in Yuhan, China that seemed to be built in 16 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Russian propaganda praised the achievements of the Sputnik vaccine. The aim was to achieve a global prestige for Russia, when at the same time Russia’s health care system is collapsing due to the large number of deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mixing truth with falsehood is a Sharp Power technique of authoritarian regimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 The European External Relations Council (ECFR) conducted research in nine EU member states and the dominant element in the public opinion of these countries was that the EU was ineffective during the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Italy, 25% of respondents consider China to be Italy ‘s most important ally (because they sent masks and respirators, which is true), while only 4% considered EU to be an important ally of Italy. The EU Recovery & Resilience Fund has offered Italy \u20ac27 billion, in order to fight the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 In Serbia, 40% of respondents believe that China has helped Serbia. The EU contributed \u20ac 1.8 billion to Serbia in 2020, while China contributed only \u20ac 6.6 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, the President of Serbia recognizes China as the most honest and trustworthy state-friend of Serbia. The deliberate participation of the Supreme Institution of Serbia in China’s Sharp Power or a victim of misinformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A survey by the Political Capital Institute found that most people in Hungary believe that Russia has more military power than the United States, when US defense spending is ten times that of Russia, and the Russian economy is the size of the Italian economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why this happens in democracies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is mainly due to the willingness of the “idiots”, who in this case are the Eurosceptic politicians who make the “medium” of the authoritarian propaganda of these states, reinforced any negative impressions to the detriment of their democracies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their goal is to adapt the entire political system to the policies pursued by Russia and China, demonstrating the successes of these countries and to adopt-accept investments from these authoritarian countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Solutions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To stop this phenomenon of losing the “attractiveness” of democracies, we must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. to constantly and unceasingly highlight the wrong policies of the authoritarian regimes of Russia and China.<\/li>
  2. to further promote the benefits of the rule of law, freedom, and respect for fundamental human rights.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    There is no reason to lose the unwavering public confidence in liberal democracy, because then it will be easier for followers of the authoritarian policies of China and Russia, respectively, to rise to power.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
