The New-York Historical Society<\/strong> honors the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG)\u2014the trailblazing Supreme Court justice and cultural icon\u2014with a special exhibition in fall 2021, based on the popular Tumblr and bestselling book of the same name. A traveling exhibition organized by the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg<\/em> takes an expansive and engaging look at the justice\u2019s life and work, highlighting her ceaseless efforts to protect civil rights and foster equal opportunity for all Americans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark Rothko 1968: Clearing Away<\/em> brings together key paintings from Rothko\u2019s renowned body of work made in the late 1960s\u2014a significant and prolific period in the artist\u2019s life. In the wake of a particularly difficult bout of ill health and a tumultuous time in his personal life, Rothko was forced to reduce the scale of his practice from his signature monumental canvas to more intimately sized paper. Despite physical limitations, Rothko worked feverishly with a renewed enthusiasm for color, delighted by the effect of acrylic paint, which he had newly discovered. Pace<\/strong> is honored to inaugurate its new London gallery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exhibition: Canova: Sketching in Clay<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Antonio Canova (1757\u20131822), the famous European sculpter, working with his hands and small tools, Canova produced dazzling sketch models in clay, which helped him plan his designs for his large statues in marble. Imprinted with the fire of his imagination, these sketches were boldly executed in mere minutes. Canova also made more finished models, sensuous in their details, that he showed to patrons or used as guides for carving. Approximately 40 of the some 60 of his surviving models reveal the artist\u2019s extraordinary working process\u2014a process that led to the creation of some of the most iconic works in the history of sculpture.The exhibition is organized by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, and The Art Institute of Chicago.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the rooms of the Museo Novecento<\/strong>, between the ground floor and the first floor, an outstanding series of paintings and drawings will be exhibited. The works cover a wide period, from the early 2000s to the last few months. Saville transcends the limits between the figurative and the abstract, between the formal and the gestural, evincing a contemporary humanism that puts the figure at the center of the history of art. Like no other artist of our time, she has left postmodernism behind to reconstruct a close connection with the great European pictorial tradition, in constant discourse with the modernism of Willem de Kooning and Cy Twombly, and the portraiture of Pablo Picasso and Francis Bacon. The exhibition will reveal a dialogue between Saville and the art and artists of the Italian Renaissance, including some of Michelangelo\u2019s greatest masterpieces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
